QuoteReplyTopic: how to spike hair Posted: May 27 2000 at 12:16am
Hi
I really need to find a more effective way of spiking my hair. I'm more keen on using home products since it's hard to find stuff that people suggest in shops....so... I've been using egg white and soap but it really is a bit grotty and it ain't too strong. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried Mousse? Sometimes a combination of a lightweight gel mixed with a little Mousse will do the trick to spikey hair. I sure wouldn't use egg-white and soap. I think it might make your scalp very dry and start a problem. The soap will probably clog up the pores and you will get an irritated and flaky condition. Also is your hair cut short and texturized? This is major. Forest
Yeah, I've got short texturized hair. I haven't bothered trying mousse yet since I didn't think it would be strong enough. I want the big thick spikes you see. Like only about seven in total. But I agree, egg is totally disgusting. It's a pain in the arse to wash out too since you have to do it in cold water or else it scrambles in your hair. Yummmmmmmm.
But anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll give it a shot.

Red, it looks like you need something stronger. An old trick many of the punks did and still do is dilute sugar in water and use it - sort of a hairspray. According to them it really holds very well. Just look at their do's... One disadvantige though - you might become some bee's best friends.
I don't have any information on how much sugar with how much water, I guess this is a trial and error process.
