QuoteReplyTopic: Why do so many women transition? Posted: July 21 2006 at 9:58am
I was wondering what the reason is that a lot of women transition from having relaxed hair to natural hair. Is it to be true to yourself or because over time relaxing your hair breaks it out?
At the moment my hair is natural and sometimes I think about texturising it just to give it some extra length and managebility. The thing is I wouldn´t want to wear my hair straight. I would like the texture to remain as close to my natural hair texture as possible.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether it would be a good idea to texturise my hair or not. Do you think it would cause me no problems at first but then maybe 10 years down the line it will have all broken out?
If anyone has any experience of what a relaxer or texturiser can do to your hair after years of use that would be helpful.
Thanks

Women Transition for many reasons. But I can only speak for myself, one of the main reasons I decided to Transition was I simply grew tired of relaxing my hair, and I got bored with the look of relaxed hair and needed a change. My hair wasnt damaged or breaking off, it just was something I wanted to do.
WELL, I did it because the chemical fumes ..that sulfuric smell was getting on my LAST nerve, it was TOO time consuming for me since I have a very persistant and adventurous 3 year old, got tired of giving some of these beauticians my head of hair to experiment on and dad nabit I came to the realization that my hair seems to love being left the heck alone. I love not having to run around like a chicken with my head cut off due to the speed race of putting the relaxer in my hair.(lol) My hair ain't trying to leave my scalp and find a new home on the floor or the sink anymore either. My only regret is I wished I had "started over" years ago. I only relaxed my hair 3 times a year anyway..it didn't cause any problems but I couldn't let hard earned money go to waste anymore. Wash and go is mostly what i do..wash and go!!

I transitioned because my hair didn't agree with relaxers and because i like my hair's texture.
Hair Type- 4a/b *transitioning front of my head*
Length-ranges from 5-7 inches =)
Products- Garnier Fructis S & S Poo, Lustrasilk Shea Butter Mango Conditioner and Cantu-Leave in =)
Well for me I was tired of relaxing, the cost, and the breakage. For you, all you can do is try it. If you keep it up with its scheduled maintenance of its texturizes and shampoo routine then you should be fine. Right now I use Baka natural-laxer plus to help with manging my hair. You could use things that can give your hair manageability without having to make it permanent or with chemicals.

Thanks for all of your comments. I´ve found them all very interesting and helpful in making a decision. I´ve also done a lot of research and have decided to keep my hair natural as I think with the right products and care it has a lot of potential. Not only that but I want to be different and love myself for being different. Thanks again for all of you r comments and good luck with acheiving your hair goals (",)

I like the versatilitiy of natural hair. I can wear it straight, curly, wavy, coiled, twisted, nappy. Also it is much stronger and healthier in its natural state
