"Old" and "young" scents

In one of the posts here, someone mentioned trying to find the perfect scent that wasn't too old or young.  I've never thought of fragrances in that way before.  I'm familiar with heavy scents, but in my personal opinion, those aren't appropropriate for any age, young or old.  I personally prefer light scents on any age of person.
 
Is an old scent the same as a heavy scent, and is a young scent the same a a light scent?  Or, is there some other distinction?

i also think heavier scents suit better older women , while fresh seem better on younger...
