Hi,

Sorry about your highlighting lines. Why did this happen? While I am not absolutely sure, a good guess is that the stylist/colorist did not tie the cap tightly enough to your head so that there was enough tension at the roots. This is a common problem.

Also, the type of color or bleach that might have been used may not have been mixed properly and was not the same concentration through the hair or not enough formula was brushed on your hair.

How long will it last? You should notice it fading within 1-2 weeks. It depends on how often you wash your hair. As a rule, highlights done with a cap will fade quite a bit over time and usually in a few weeks any lines will be gone completely.

You can also use color shampoos like Aveda Chamomile or ARTec Lemonflower to soften the line and maintain your highlights.

I have been having my hair highlighted for over 10 years with the cap method and there were a few times that a few tiny demarcation lines happened because the cap was not tight enough.

I would suggest that the next time you go to have highlights that you quizz the colorist on how they are going to avoid the lines in the future.

Best wishes,
Karen
