QuoteReplyTopic: Hairspray clogging pores? Posted: August 06 2006 at 8:42pm
Hey, so I have always had pretty descent skin. Maybe one or two pimples at time. However, lately, my skin has been horrible..seriously, it is going to hell. I don't know why the sudden change, but then I started thinking about what I have been doing different lately. I have been using this different kind of hairspray, and have been spraying my bangs so that they won't clump. Do you think the hairspray could be the reason my skin has been so bad? I am going to stop using it jsut in case....I want my good skin back, escpecially before school starts up again.
Yeap! hairspray would do it. That's why I don't use it. Other products would do it too, but hairspray is the biggest offender. I remember years ago, I used to love sebastian wet spray. Wherever my hair would touch my skin, I would get pimples. I had pretty long hair, so my back was going crazy. Some stridex body wash and problem solved. And of course, no more hairspray.

Dont feel bad, even if it isnt the hairspray and acne strikes you, there are MANY things to get it under control.
hairspray absolutely can break you out (it's sticky and clogs the pore) try spraying the hairspray on your fingers and THEN applying it to your bangs to avoid getting it on your face.
If you find even after you are still getting acne. Try these things:
1) a face wash with salicylic acid or benzoyol peroxide
2) only wash your face a max of 2 times a day (more then that will actually make it oilier)
3) Try oil absorbing sheets to absorb excess oil
4) switch to a foundation that is water based
5)see a dermatologist~many people (including me) dont want to do this. But there are some wonderful ones out there! mine was a life saver after every over the counter product failed. You may have an under the skin infection,in which case nothing will help but an anti-biotic (like periostat or doxycycline) That's what i had an wouldve kept breaking out hadnt I gone. Just dont despair! You arent alone, and there is alot you can try to help!
