just thought i'd throw this out... anyone ever permed their extensions? i put wavy remi in and after a few washes it looks like silky straight! i wanted curl to help blend in my really short hair. anyone know of a brand that actually stays wavy or curly? thanks all!

bodywave always drops after washing. French refined, or any curly texture will keep its wave/curl. Also most of the indian hair will have a natural wave.
Perming is NOT recommended. The hair has already been processed for texture (most has) and if its a any other color than black/dark brown then its been procesed for color too. So putting on chemicals will possibly/probably compromise the integrity of the hair.
I have permed hair extension hair and hairpieces many times. If you use a perm made for highlighted/bleached hair and then you only process it for a few minutes. You have to check for the curl formation every two minutes.
Here's the big difference: Do not use the chemical neutralizer after the perm solution is rinsed out. When I went to the Onrite Academy (for hairpieces) they said that's where the damage comes from in perming hair extensions/hairpieces. Process with the perm solution, rinse well, and then let it air neutralize for at least 24 hours on the rod.

Agree. I did this with a silky straight brand and it worked very nice. I used 8oz plastic bottles and butterfly clips to hold the hair and got big fat curls. For the rinsing I used a 50/50 combination of water & Infusium 23.
hum, sounds complicated... next time i'll get hair with more curl... i was aftraid to get too curly because i have straight hair. looking for more suggestions! thanks girls

I think it is a bit complicated. If you are experienced with perming or have dealt with and worked with extensions for a long time it may be completely do-able.
The reason for my opinion is this:
First not knowing what grade, quality or brand the hair is. If its a low grade remy (we all know how many companies that claim their hair is remy) which may be highly or overprocessed, another chemical process may ruin the hair.
Second not knowing what color the hair is. If its 613 or a light color (highly processed already) the perming may damage or compromise the quality of the hair.
Last: if a person isnt experienced with perming/chemical processes it would be really easy to overprocess, or if they dont have access to professional products they could ruin the hair. (I dont think Id want to use a drug store perm kit on extension hair)
Just my opinion...but I think you are better off just dealing with the straight hair this time and purchasing a curlier/wavier hair the next time.

I've had a few friends that like to change between curly and straight when they have their extensions in and they make the hair damp and tie it in to braids.
Big braids for big curls and small braids for small curls.
Leave it to dry and comb out.
I've not tried this myself yet but I've got 14" French refined in at the moment, which has a big curl in and it has dropped a fair bit since I've had it in.
I'm just worried that when I wash it the curl will all fall out, though I have bought tongs to see if I can resurrect them if they do.
i was going to go for the french refined next... but yours are loosing curl? how long have they been in so far? i like the look of the body wave before you wash it...
