You don't have to be 'mixed' to have loose texture hair.  And you can get her style on tightly curled hair (4a/b) By doing braid-outs, twist-outs and such.

If you talking about her curly fro, shes mixed race so i think it just grew like that. But then again she has had a few styles recently

Braid out or a Twist out may work.

Maybe a wash & go style.
 
while washing hair in shower comb it out, then apply moisturizer to it afterwards.
 
Or maybe a good ole fashioned twist out!

I was wondering how to achieve Kelis's old hairstyle.  I currently sport a wrap style I do not have a relaxer or perm just color.
