QuoteReplyTopic: Good toner? Posted: October 04 2006 at 9:56pm
Hey guys!
Just want to say first off, I adore this board and all of you posters, but I have a question that I can hopefully get some help with; I'm looking to tone my own hair in between bleachings at the salon. I could go and get it done by my hair stylist, but that's just more money out of my pocket when I could tone it myself, and I used to do my own hair, but I'm quite platinum now and don't want to bleach my own roots (read: I'm too lazy). Well, hope you lovelys can help me, look forward to your replies!!

Your hair looks like the same color as mine...I have been having good results with Clairol Born Blonde Toners. I use the whitest one they offer. I mix one bottle of the toner with *shoot i can't remember the amount...but it will say on the bottle* 20 volume Pure White developer. I get those both at Sally's beauty supply. I just put it all in a squeeze bottle and work it in and leave it on for about 10 minutes and then wash out and condition with Joico K-Pak.
Good luck!

I've used wella color charm toner in white lady. That one works nicely for neutralizing the yellow. My favorite is just using a purple conditioner like Shimmer Lights or Shiny Silver though. I put it on my hair, put a shower cap over it, and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Using the conditioner is less scary than using toner, because if you leave the toner on for too long it can turn your hair a weird greenish-ash color. Hope that helped!
thanks.

I have used Clairol's Radiance to "refresh" my color between bleachings. It is similar to Redken Shades EQ and is not damaging at all. It will fade over time, but it makes your hair really shiny. Its available at Sally's. Just my "2 cents"!!
