She appeared briefly on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" tonight.  Her hair was down to her ankles.  There were rumors a couple of years ago that she had cut it; not so.  She looked very much like the picture on her website http://www.crystalgayle.com/

She won't cut her hair, even though she is quite old now, because her hair is all she has going for her. She is not a very pretty woman, and she is a mediocre musical talent.

Why was she on the show in the first place? Anytime a person with very long hair is on a show like that you get a little concerned.

It was a Home Makeover show - not person makeover.  Curious - I am a short hair lover mainly, so I am biased but do people really find her hair attractive?  It just doesn't look good to me - I think if you cut 3 feet off it would look better (healthier).  I understand it is her trademark - I'm just looking at the hair

How can you keep you hair so nice if you are constantly colouring it, I wish I knew some secrets, coloured my hair 3x and now it is a dry frizzy yellow mess.

As an admitted lover of long hair, I find Crystal Gayle sensational from head to, well, ankle. I make no apologies for it. A story in my local newspaper on www.tlhs.com (the Long Hair Site) with an accompanying photo of Crystal is the thing that convinced me to get the Internet years ago. She hasn't lost her place in my heart or head. If anyone learns that the Home Makeover show will be replayed, please let me know.

Heart Crystal will be 56 on Jan. 9, and I consider her one beautiful woman. By no means is her hair *ALL* she has going for her! Sure, she was one of the world's most beautiful women twenty years ago, but she's still super hot in my eyes. She has a great figure, a lovely face, wonderful personality, and that *hair* can still drive guys wild. May it always remain!
There was a magazine survey in the mid-eighties, I wish I could remember where, in which readers got to vote on the sexiest celebrity female asset. There were about 10 women from which to choose. I recall being stunned when Crystal's hair won in a landslide. At the time, I thought my passion for sensuous hair was unusual. Yeah, right! At a show a decade later, I felt I was among hundreds of kindred spirits as Crystal swayed her awesome mane with her back turned toward the audience during musical bridges. It brought the house down every time! Ah, great memories indeed. I salute you, Brenda Gayle Webb, aka Crystal Gayle. Godspeed! Tongue
Blessings, Bob
Just wanted to add that it is *still* a major thrill for me when Crystal appears on the tube. Long hair does indeed send most women's beauty quotients into the stratosphere, even those who are 55 and beyond!

Take a good look at her face. Even older pictures of her. Without her long hair, she is exceptionally plain. And her singing and music is ordinary at best. There are enough men with long hair fetishes to give her popularity. If she had average length hair, you would have never heard of her. There are so many women in the music business who are so much more beautiful, and have so much more talent.
In a way it is almost pathetic that some men have such fetishes for long hair (or short hair) that they can make mediocre talents popular.
Another example is Sinead O'Conner. She only had one or two good songs. She was a mediocre talent. She had a pretty face, but so do many women. She only gained the popularity that she did because she shaved her head bald, and the men with a fetish for that made her popular.
I have nothing against women with long hair, or bald women, or women with bob cuts, or women with sexy figures and big breasts, but I respect talent, and it is too bad that some women who are mediocre talents can make it big just because people have certain hair fetishes or a woman is pretty with a sexy body.
That is less common with men. Some of the most popular male musicians are handsome guys, but many are not that handsome. In the case of men musicians, people go more by talent. They should do so more often with women.

Confused Uhhh..., Carol, just maybe *some* of us think that Crystal *is* phenomenally talented. Within her range, which admittedly is far from extraordinary, her voice remains as velvety and smooth as fine wine. It is among the very best I've ever heard. My late FIL was insane over Crystal's voice and music, and *he* was a fan of short, processed coifs on women. I enjoy her music, but I did mainly attend her concert to see *her*. (BTW, must one have a "fetish" when one regards maintained long hair on a gal as the most ravishing sight on earth? To me, beauty simply *is*!)
Now, Carol, it does seem as if you have a chip on your shoulder about guys recognizing and appreciating female beauty. But it is I who thinks that Crystal would still be very lovely even without her divine locks. She was easily the world's most beautiful entertainer in my eyes before she hit 35. But the woman's elegance will never be taken away if she lives to 100.
One last point: There are *many* average looking men *and* women who have gained mass popularity in music. But mostly all of them predominantly write their own songs. The majority of "cover" singers, male and female, must be considered among the "beautiful"  people to have a chance. Does anyone really think that Ricky Martin's or Enrique Eglesias' concert halls would be filled with screaming, adoring women if they looked like Jason Alexander? NOT a chance! Blessings, Bob

OK, one more time: This is a freaking hair site. We talk about hair. We comment about hair. We talk about hair we like and hair we don't like. That's what we do here. I'm sure there are plenty of other sites where you can blast a celebrity's talent or plain face, if that's how you feel. That being said, Sinead O'Conner does not have a hairstyle I enjoy.

Bob,
I do not have a chip on my shoulder regarding men appreciating beautiful women. I like to believe that in my own way I am beautiful, and I like handsome men. Of course the men and women are attracted to each other.

You folks have missed my point. My point was that Crystal Gayle is not very talented, and a very plain woman, and if it wasn't for her unusually long hair, she would never have gotten much recognition.
I must admit, I am not much of a fan of country music, I am a product of New York City, but there are a few country musicians that I do like, and she isn't one of them.

I understand this is a hairstyle website, so if some of the people like her long hair, fine, but don't insult our intelligence by saying she is some kind of great talent, or exceptionally beautiful, just because you have a thing for her long hair.
By the way, I have nothing against men or women having fetishes for certain hairstyles, just be honest about it.

I'm positive that Crystal Gayle was popular and famous before she grew her hair to such unusual lengths.  I've seen pictures and she only had waist length when she first became popular in country music.

The link above will actually take you to a set of pictures from her website.  If you scroll about half way down, you'll see what her hair looked like in 1975 when she won the Top New Female Vocalist.  Her hair was maybe butt length?  I've seen other pictures that would indicate she didn't start to grow her hair beyond this length until the later part of the 1970s.  I think it was between 1978 and 1979 where it got really long.  By then she was already a huge.

Here is a classic photo of Crystal.  It's probably her hair at it's longest/prettiest.  I can't seem to verify what year the album that picture was on was released?

She was only on the show for about 10 seconds.  They we're building a new home near Nashville and a bunch of country stars came out to help; she was one of them.

Big%20smile If my wife looks as stunning as Crystal does at 55, Carol, I'll be one lucky man! We simply disagree.
About "fetishism", my definition of this is "fascination with a physical facet of a human being *apart from the person (her)self*". (In my case it could only be a *she*). In the example of hair, obviously someone who collects ponytails would qualify. When said passion objectifies the woman who owns the asset, that is over the line, and therefore is fetishism. If *your* definition, Carol, says that any feature which arouses an individual pleasurably betrays a fetish, then everyone would qualify. In the realm of hair, then, I am proudly a passionate fetishist! Blessings, Bob

In 1983, Harper's Bazaar magazine named Crystal one of the 10 most beautiful women in America. And in my opinion, she remained rather attractive well into her 40's. Her hair is mostly amazing, but when she was younger & prettier, I yearned for her to cut it into a shorter style that showed off her face. Now, I think she should keep it really long.

Like I said, fetishism doesn't bother me, and you are right, everyone has fetishes.
