I get mine "re-tightened" about every 6-8 weeks. I try for 6 weeks if I can, but my hair grows really fast. Some people wear them for 3 months but I hate the regrowth hanging there. I feel most damage is done when re-growth ( with any method) is left too long. That is when your natural hair really starts to pull the weight and matting risks from shed hairs is higher. The pinchbraids are really secure. I don't lose but 1 or 2 the whole time....sometimes none! But they are a little bulkier than most strand methods--Not good for those that have really SPARSE see through hair. My hair is medium density and baby fine...but good enough to cover them well. Also-- it is imperative to find a GREAT braider! That makes a huge difference if they slip or not.

My 2 cents on Hairlocs--My mom and myself are certified through Hairlocs.I do not do installs anymore but my mom does. Tangles is right. To remove the Hairlocs without damage, you must re-open them with a "rounder" tool and not crimp them. I believe you can get the tool somewhere online. I'd have to ask her. They are hard to re-open without one. They are a bit different than Eurolocs. At any rate, I found they damaged my fine hair more than I'd like so even though I can have them done for FREE by my mother, I opt to have pinchbraids done 4 hours away and PAY for them! Everyone's hair responds differently to every method though. My mom has clients that LOVE their hairlocs and experience minimal damage while I am in LOVE with my pinchbraids! Too bad for me I guess.

if they are removed with the right remover and you really crunch the bonds i think fusion is less damaging- note that i do not think you should leave them in longer than 3 months...
no hairlocs doesnt double crimp- i fact i have a new tool made for me and i dont crimp at all- i just close the top and bottom. works great, and i dont use the poky thing either to open

I think the removal of Eurolocs is more damaging than fusion. The 'problem' is that genuine Eurolocs are installed in a 'double crimp' method. You crimp the bead flat and then fold it over like a book and crimp again. The only way to reopen the link is by sticking the very sharp and pointy pincher tool into the link to pry it open. I think it slices hairs when you try to pry the link open.
Fusion can be damaging to remove because sometimes that glue just doesn't not want to come out of the hair very easily. It takes a lot of patience. Overall, I'd vote that fusion removal is less damaging. I've had lots of experience in both methods and this is what I've seen in my clients.
