I am oriental-looking 15 yr old guy in need of a new hairstyle. I have black, straight hair. I usually get a buzzcut but now I want to grow it longer and get something different. I have naturally tan skin and my face is kind of roundish or oval looking. Anyone have suggestions? Whenever I try to get a haircut that cuts my hair less than 3 inches long, my hair tends to stand up, and not go down unless with gel or hairspray. I hate gel or hairspray because i don`t like the effect gel has on my hair, after a couple of hours it makes my hair have a greasy-not clean look. Is there any alternative to this? Or maybe I am using the wrong gel or hairspray? I would very much appreciate help. thanks.

well....for one the standing up part of your hair might be caused by a few things...now im not a guy so i dont know exactly how your hair works, but for one it might be caused by a bad cut. if your hair is say 2 to 3 inches all over, and its standing up the stylist or barber might not be meshing it together right. when you try to grow it and it stands up, you are just going through natural growing out phases and they will go away if you let your hair grow longer. if you still have this problem after its grown say 3 or so inches long all over, get a consultation with a stylist and see why its doing this. it might be your hair type. as for gels and hairsprays, gels on guys are usually used to maintain a wet/greasy spikey look. if thats not what you are going for, go to a salon and use tigis bedhead. i use the manipulator on my short hair and you can do anything with it from make it lay flat as a board to make it stand up straight as can be and it holds. it leaves a little residue but it doesnt make your hair hard. also try their lines of regular gels and hairsprays. i love their line of products. other than that, the only other suggestion is to keep it short like in a real short number 2 or 3 blade buzz. but you say you want it to get longer, so thats not what you want. hope i helped a little :)

thanks loads:). I`ll look into the tigis bedhead thing. What exactly is a tigis bedhead anyways? Yea I had a bunch of different stylists. One told me that my hair "won`t go down like that cause my hair isnt that type," and then another one said that she "loves my hair because you can do anything with it." This confused me a bit. At that point I didnt know whether to cut it all off or just leave it. I ended up cutting it all off. Right now I am wearing a cap in the morning to press my hair down while it is still growing.
