Hello everyone.

I was just wondering if someone could give me advice on this problem I`m having. See, I`m 18 years old with very light (not bleached) blond hair. In the last year or so I have noticed that my hair, all except my bangs, does not seem to be getting any longer! Not even an inch! I have no idea why. I do use the hairdryer and curling iron every day, but I give my hair regular hot oil treatments and a deep conditioner. My ends are rather bad now but I`m afraid to get my hair cut for fear that I will be stuck with even shorter hair! Please help!

Thanks!
Lilith

Lilith, first don`t use any chemicals in your hair, stop blow drying it and let it dry natural, just towel dry it. Try styling your hair differnt with out using a curling iron, use hot rollers. Third you will have to get your hair trimed, it promotes new hair growth. When was the last time you trimed it? Might want to consider cutting short just to help encourage new growth. Once you cut it your hair will start growing back, also try a differnt shampoo. Let me know what happens Email me at s23s5@earthlink.net.

First sentence of above advice is good, and I agree that the ends could use a shape-up trim (since they are admittedly in bad shape).

However, I don`t think trims promote new hair growth; I think that trimming off ends in "bad shape" prevent them from splitting further up the hair shaft, and a neatly-trimmed line helps reduce tangles, which allows for more gentle care, thus allowing hair to grow longer without so much damage occuring at the ends.

I do doubt the validity of the suggestion to "consider cutting short just to help encourage new growth." As Lilith wants longer hair, retaining as much hair that`s in good shape as possible will be most helpful in achieving her goal.

Sorry to say, but some people`s hair will only grow to about 2 to 3 inches below their shoulders, and just will not grow any longer.

That is impossible. Hair doesn`t know how long it is.
If it isn`t getting longer you`re dealing with damaged hair that is breaking off and/or impatience and/or possibly a hairloss problem (my dogs hair doesn`t grown long but it is because it falls out before it has a chance to grown long).

Hair growth rate and length are genetically determined.
