How is the technology of perming lately?
The last thing I know about perms is that they`re totally unnaturally looking and horrid for the hair, but I`ve heard that they`ve made advancements and can give you a really good looking, nearly natural looking perm, that wouldn`t be too wretched on your hair. Anyone know about this?
I mean, you see all these actresses and models with unnatural curls, and granted, I know they have their own personal hairstylists who make sure they look perfect, but are some of these styles perms, or are they just all done by pin curls/curlers?
Thanks so much Lizz

Perming has come a long way in the last few years. You can now get a very natural looking curl without excessive damage to your hair. There are even temporary perms that last just 7 days. If you decide you want to try a perm, I suggest seeing a professional as these are still powerful chemicals and when not used properly can cause a great deal of harm to your hair. Before you perm, you should shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo prior. If your scalp has sores, sun burn, or pimples do not perm. Dry, damaged, bleached and chemically treated hair should definitely be permed by a professional hairstylist. You can also achieve natural curls with rag curlers or curlers like those at www.sleepershairrollers.com and www.euroteezer.com/sassy.html These rollers will give plenty of curl without the chemicals and if you don`t like the look, just shampoo! Happy curling!

I don`t know. I have heard all that stuff about perming coming a long way but not for my hair. I have NEVER had a good perm experience and I have tried lots of perms over the years, the last one about a year ago. My hair is fine and highlighted and that is not a good combination to begin with. There are many stylists who refuse to perm my hair. But for my money, the results are too iffy, and they don`t last long anyway. Why not just try to work with what nature gave you in the first place?
