Hi everyone! I'm new to the board and have LOTS of questions that I'm hoping I can get opinions on (I'll post later), but for now, I have one: Is it recommended that you relax your hair when getting a weave or not? I've done both.

I like to relax because it does the weave seems to last longer because it doesn't get all poof underneath after I wash. When I don't, while my hair can be blow dried pretty straight, it does start to poof up after each wash and so the weave itself doesn't last as long.

I will be having mine redone this weekend--this time leaving all of my hair underneath. I have lupus and thinning hair so I don't have a lot of my own hair to cover up tracks. I am working on that though by starting to take a lot of the vitamins and supplements you smart ladies have recommended on this board.

Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!

first sorry to hair about your condititon, but you should make decisions that can help you thicken your hair.

i use to weave my hair and yes i relaxed then weave if it was time (6weeks) to relax/// to make the tracks stay put underneath use bulk kanekalon hair to braid your cornrows, this avoids sewing / and pulling on your real hair

Tareco, are you doing a full head or partial weave?

theres a shampoo at natural shops and GNC called Biotene hair thickening shampoo it contains biotin which aids in growth. It has three parts a shampoo, a scalp treatment and a conditioner, do some research about this product and see if the ingredients are safe for you.
my hair grew from my sew in trackse because i used the extra kanekalon braiding hair, after a good deep conditioner

p.s. welcome aboard

Thanks so much for your reply! Would you mind elaborating on what you said above? I'm not quite sure I understand. I would be passing this information on  to my stylist. So, are you also saying that you recommend relaxing?

Yes, will be doing a full head weave this time.

My hair has always been baby fine thin but grows in length quite fast. It's always amazed my stylists as far as how fast my hair would grow! But since the illness and due to some meds I was on, my already thin hair got thinner!  It also didn't help that I went to a "stylist" (I don't go to her anymore) who braided way too tight and I just don't think she knew what she was doing! She claimed she was licensed in another state but didn't have one from here yet. Artistically, she did excellent work--but I don't think she knows hair and how to take care of it. She actually told me that washing my hair weekly or even every 10 days was too much. That I really should wash it no more than monthly! She would bragg about how she would go about 6 WEEKS to wash hers (YUK!) (which also explained her very acne riddened face) and was constantly reminding me that I'm not white!  She was just simply ignorant! I only went to her 3 or 4 times before I woke up. So anyway, I think those months were crucial and what hurt my hair because of the tight braiding. (I didn't listen to her regarding the washing!)

Right now I have a partial weave but will do a full one this time. Any other comments, suggestions, etc are weclome!

Thank you!
