Since when is long hair rare?

Hi, I am new to this sight and I have noticed several posts saying that long hair is rare. I was just wondering where this long hair shortage is, because I have not noticed it! Also, among what age group?

I am in my late 20`s. I have long hair--just past my bra strap. I see women (and quite a few men) everyday with long hair--some longer than mine.

Also, I am in the Army, and this may surprise some of you, but most of my female friends in the Army have surprisingly long hair when they let it down off duty!! We all have breakage though from putting it up everyday :(

I have just come back from a 4-year tour in Germany and in Europe, it seems short hair is all the rage. Long hair on the club crowd--or even the shoppers in the malls is rare and if the hair was long, it was invariably worn in a messy bun or sticking up out of a claw-clip---my personal favorite style :)
