I just ruined my virgin hair with L'oreal Preference True Brunettes.  It's a high lift colour and it turned out orange. Weird thing is the strand test was nice, it just didn't translate to my whole head...

Anyway, my hair is  bright clown orange now and pretty damaged.  It looks very fragile.  It's a little longer than shoulder length.

I bought some blue/black dye (my hair is almost black naturally) to dye it back.

How long should I wait to do this?  2 weeks?  I don't want to kill my hair.

What treatments should I be doing.

I'm sorry to hear that ... I'm not really the person to ask (new to the board and a novice at this hair coloring talk!!)  but from what I've read on these boards, black hair is very tricky to lighten.

Can you afford a salon?  That's where I would be headed!  If it's something you can't stand ... I'm not sure you absolutely have to wait two whole weeks - but others may have a different opinion.

Call the L'Oreal hot line and ask them if this is bleach or just permanent color.  If it's permanent color then go ahead with the black, but just realize that your hair is probably porous and will really grab the black.  I think if it were me, I'd select a color dark ash brown in the colorgems, and try that first...if you say your hair is orange, bright clown then all you need to do to fix it is get some dye opposite the color wheel.  What cancels out orange?  or rather what mixed with orange will create brown?  Green/Red, Yellow/Purple or violet, Blue/Orange.  Most ash dyes are blue or green based.  Strand test, but then you know how that goes.

I have used color gems in the past, you could try dark ash brown?

Good luck and I hope this helps.

I'm a poor student, so I can't afford a salon right now.  I can really only afford to buy a few more products to fix this, which makes it more depressing...

Hmm, well I bought Nice and Easy in Blue Black...so the blue should cancel out the orange tones, right?

I was going to do a dark brown, but I don't think that'll give enough coverage.  My hair is very orange!  I don't want to have the damage of a dye that would just fade and start showing the brassiness again.  I just want a cool, manageable colour.

I'm okay with going blue black...it's the opposite of what I wanted, but it might be a nice change.

I guess my question is...how do I minimize damage when dying?  Because the Loreal fried my hair and I really want my black colour to look as healthy as possible.  I think black only looks good if it's glossy and shiny.

Oh yeah, it's not bleach...well, it's not a high strength bleach anyway.  I think hi-lift browns have to have some kind of bleach, but it must be a pretty low concentration.

I don't know, it's just advertised as a permanent colour, but there's probably a low strength bleach in there.

I heard something about protein treatments?  Would I be able to use egg or something for this?  Haha, I am getting kind of desperate...

Listen I'd seriously try the color gems first, it's a demi permanent color, very gentle and will rinse out.  Once you put that black in, it's in.  Can you post a pic of your hair?  Yes, orange will be cancelled out by blues.

Good luck!

Don't dye it black!! It will look so fake.Black is the worse color to use.If u want it dark.Use a dark brown.Plus, hair turns 1- 2 shades darker than the box.Trust me, I've messed up my hair by coloring it black.Blue black is really bad.I'd get a pretty chocatle brown.I think u should try Loreal Excellence Creme. It's better for your hair.Just read the box. It's work fragile hair.I have colored my hair since I was 12.I had to learn my messing up.Plus, I went to school for it some.I quit cuz my temper got the best of me with a girl there, lol!! Coloring I'm good at.As for cutting, I wasn't that great. So, I wouldn't have made it cuz of cutting hair.Anyways, enough about myself.Just trust me, don't do it black.U could wait 2 weeks, or do it now.Seeing how it's virgin hair.Be very careful still!!
