Hello to all,

Like a lot of other newbies I have been reading EVERYTHING on your site for quite sometime, and it is an enormous and GREAT AMOUNT OF information.  I have tried to do a SEARCH on the questions I'm about to ask but for some reason, NO LUCK..just comes up as a blank page saying i need more words..etc  (FYI i typed the max amount)  please be patient with me, i'm a little detailed at times...lol...

I have been doing my own hair for quite sometime.  it has begun to thin out on the edges (i believe because of micro-braids, which i also do myself).  I will be installing sewn - in extensions and everytime i do this I always have problems with the crown area.  Would Protac/ Tape/ Supertape etc be a good way to go?  Can i dye my hair with this tape in?  Where can I find this tape?  Will it take my hair out?? (i have medium course black hair (2B to be exact...LOL)

I'm doing this so that I can start to maintain my hair better.  Is there a particular sew-in method that is better than another?  Does this tape come in different colors, the only colors i've seen on the internet is white??????  ANY SUGGESTIONS, you guys seem to really know your stuff...

one last ??  Where can I buy inexpensive (NOT CHEAP hair that doesnt last) yet durable hair that a DOESNT FRIZZ or has little frizzing??

hi there! i use a combination of Protac/tape and Liquid Gold.....i've not colored my hair with it in, im not sure if anyone has (for me conditioners/moisturizing shampoos/anything oily loosen up the tape too much if i get that near the tape, so im not sure what color would do)

if you remove the tape patiently and correctly it will not take your hair out....i will say that recently the posts i've read i think more people are having luck with Liquid Gold than with the tape, but i use both

what exact 'problem' are you having with your crown area and maybe everyone can better help you!
the tapes also are not WHITE, what you see on the pictures on the net is the white paper backing, the tapes are clear and some people complain that the shinyness is noticable in their head

oh dear, and inexpensive hair that is all good.....i cant make any promises but i'd think what you want to look for is unprocessed indian remy (well that's what i'd wear if i didnt have blonde hair!)...i do think indianhairs.com or rkhairproducts are good for that(but im not sure what your price range is?) hope something in there helped!!

THANKS SOOO MUCH!!  it did help..  I'm still a bit confused on what the Liquid Gold is used for..,..is that like hair glue?  and how do you get that stuff out of yout head when i'm ready to relax it??

as far as the "crown" area i think i'm just braiding my hair wrong upon pre-sew in install. Usually just braid cornrows to the back and take it from there...THANKS AGAIN NURSIE!!

I like the prostick and LG (liquid gold-it's a glue) the prostick isn't shiney like the others. I buy it on shrinkies.net. Not sure about the hair because I only use synthetic. I haven't had any problems with the take down, I use goo gone and it just slid right out, still intact. I use liquid gold with the protac to give it a better hold.

Wow, I don't know how you do your own sew ins!!
http://ebonyline.com/site-map-weave-hair---human-weave--silky-human-weave-10-28-inch---premium.html
they're having a great sale now but it's like a one time use for that hair. Maybe
twice but heck, the sale is great!
A lot of people love the elite thermo
http://shrinkies.net/elitethermo.html
or the http://shrinkies.net/asian.html
And then you can put color in the LG
http://shrinkies.net/shoponline.html
to match your hair.
HTH!

Hey girl..  When you say that you are having trouble in the crown area are you talking about being able to blend your hair over the tracks towards the top?? (I am assuming of course you mean you are doing a full weave with vertical tracks going back correct??) How much of your own hair are you leaving out or are you doing a full sew in with no hair out??

Also you might wanna mosy over to BHM.. There's a coupla threads there you might find useful:

Within this thread are some EXCELLENT sew-in tutorials and a thread which lists a whole host of sites the ladies there have bought hair from and highly recommend.. You will also see within that thread lots of hair reviews..

One of the members there uses bonded tracks at the top of her sew in to help with crown blending issues (though I think she uses it more for blending hair textures that aren't quite the same as her own natural texture with her own) HTH..

Ahh one last thing.. You didn't say what texture hair you were looking for.. BUT.. If you are looking for hair that will blend well with Afro textured hair I have a few specific vendor recommendations:

Extensions Plus (http://extensions-plus.com): Their relaxed textured hair IMO is the best bet to matching afro textured hair.. This is by no means cheap hair (in terms of price or quality) but this hair will last and wear well.. You will get at LEAST 12 months worth of wear out of their hair.. (I have gotten much longer)

My Mane Attractions (http://www.mymaneattractions.com): They have a texture called "Radiant Relaxed". The hair is reasonably priced and excellent quality and will give you several months of wear. She also carries skin wefts in this texture which you can use for bonded tracks in the crown are to help with blending.

Senghori Shells (http://senghorishells.com): They have a texture called "Relaxed Rhythms" (currently only available in hand tied wefts -- machine wefts are coming soon) The hair is also reasonably priced and excellent quality and will give you several months of wear.

I have also worn the RK Hair Products hair that Nursie recommended.. I liked it a lot, and it really blended well with my own relaxed hair.. You can check out my pics of the EPRP and RK hair if you like.. (Site link in my siggy)

HTH

P.S. I ALMOST forgot.. Welcome to the forum!!

Yes the logos do look very similar.. Except My Mane Attractions' site and logo have been around a little longer than the HE101 logo..

ITA.. I leave out hair on the top and around the perimeter of my head to allow me to do ponytails and twists.. Definitely check out ThAbAdDeStBaBy's and WeaveItUp tutorials.. I think you will find them VERY helpful.. In fact ALL the tutorials on BHM will be helpful..

That makes PERFECT sense girlie.. It's about the quality of the hair, and for Afro textures in particular the cheaper hair REALLY doesn't wear well.. Many of the so-called Yaki textures don't even get past the 4 week mark before they start to behave like an out of control animal..LOLLOLLOL

Better quality hair is the key, and if you can "splurge" a little, I think you really will be pleased with the Extensions Plus Relaxed Texture hair.. The amazing thing about this hair is that most of wearing it are getting full installs out of only 4-6 oz of hair... If your pockets aren't ready to spend that kind of money, I highly recommend the Radiant Relaxed or Relaxed Rhythms hair from My Mane Attractions and Senghori Shells.. The quality is excellent and the price is definitely right for both of these vendors..

ETA: How could I forget??? One more vendor that sells good quality hair that matches Afro textures is Your Hair Shop: (http://yourhairshop.com) She sells a Yaki texture hair that is very nice. This hair is on sale now.. (25% off!!)

lisha, you crack me up!! I can usually find the liquid gold, but haven't found the other stuff, course I live where you don't do your own extensions (heaven forbid) so maybe if you live in a bigger city? I love the elite thermofiber, you can curl it and straighten it. You only have to do it once a week, the curly or straight lasts through washings, it's amazing!!!!!

Welcome! Yes, thermofiber is synthetic hair. I have some that has a hint of yaki texture and some that's very smooth. It can be washed and blown dry just like human hair, flat ironed, curled, etc. The difference in styling is that the curl is set into the hair when it's wet/very damp. What I really like is that almost all thermo hair retains the curl/wave even through washing.

Have fun flipping through the archives. There's a TON of information stashed here.

Not sure about Long Island, but definitely in the city many of the BSS's in NY are stocking Liquid Gold and Protac (although Protac tape may go by a different name in your local BSS). I know in the Bronx, Mahattan, Brooklyn and Queens a lot of the BSS's are carrying Liquid Gold.. The hair is a different matter.. Elite Thermo is available only at shrinkies.net, the various relaxed texture hairs are available only at the vendors I posted above..

At some of the larger BSS's you may find Bohyme, but if NY is like L.A. most of the BSS's stock Bohyme silky straight hair, and silky hair is not a match for any Afro relaxed hair that I've ever seen!LOLLOL If you find Bohyme at your local BSS look for the hair from the Platinum line. That hair is mean to match Afro textures..

Otherwise most BSS packaged hair is beautiful initially, but will not last through a few weeks (sometimes DAYS) of wear.. Most of that hair has been processed to death, and I would save my money on throw away hair and invest (yes I said INVESTLOLLOL) in better quality hair that will give you you money's worth..

That said.. you might wanna check out this thread:
This link contains reviews of the Best & Worst BSS brands as voted on by the ladies of BHM:

HTH.. You'll be reading for a while.. Take notes and don't feel bad if you find yourself suffering from INFORMATION OVERLOAD!!!LOLLOL

So after leaving my local BSS only a few moments ago and sitting back down here in the office (no i'm not off today..sux) to chat with you fine people; I've only become more determined to purchase online.  I searched for about 2 hours for hair at the BSS and came out with a Mizani Relaxer and their shampoo and conditioner...boy am i focusedWacko...they didnt carry the Liquid Gold, knew nothing AT ALL about Protac/ Prostick or ANY TAPE FOR THAT MATTER, and had no hair that even came CLOSEEEEE to matching my texture..*tisk tisk*  The lovely chocolate man behind the counter looked at me like I have 4 heads and i just smiled and nodded and was on my way.

So thus begins my search for tape (whatever kind thats good), Liquid Gold and some fly WEFTS that i can hook up on my wonderful head and dance to some premium Salsa with the new Fiance'...the hunt begins

Duh..Pinch I forgot girl.. There are four companies in the NYC area. Lugo's, Adorable Hair-Do, Mona's Hair Center, and Bronx Beauty Supply..

Now I gotta tell you that there's MIXED reviews on the hair.. Mona's seems to get better reviews than the others.. I have a friend wearing some of the hair from Mona's right now, and based on her experience, I think I'll be placing an order myself when my tax refund comes..

Here's the information.. Being on LI I know you aren't exactly NEAR any of these places. So maybe you need to plan a day to do a "hair tour"..LOL My girlfriend and I did that two weeks ago to visit some of the local spots here in L.A.

We took a day off of work, got up early and went from place to place..LOLLOL

Anyway here's the info on these spots:

http://www.adorablehairdo.com/

Good luck.. There's a new Indian hir spot in NYC that is getting some good reviews on BHM.. I'll see if I can dig that up for you too..
