I know there is about a million posts concerning this. And I apologize for making one more.

About a month and a half ago, I dyed a medium brown color over my [dyed] dark blonde hair. The result was faintly greenish, but its grown on me quite a bit. However, I've been seriously missing my blonde hair [ my natural color is a light ashy blonde ] and have been considering going back blonde again. I want to do it myself, at home.

Here is a picture of my hair color now [ that has faded a bit since this picture was taken ].

[ Im not so pale as the picture shows! My makeup and the flash combine to make me look very white in the face ] LOL
This is the color I'd like to obtain.
[ Sorry for the tiny picture ! ]

My original plan was to use Loreal Blondissima to lighten my hair considerably, or Garnier's 100% Bleach. Then to use the box dye above or one similar to it, to tone my hair to the ashy color.

Opinions? Etc?

These colors will bring your hair to a yellowish and orange.. be prepared to buy a toner after this. also you might have to do more than one step. So buying two boxes to be on the safe side would be a good idea.
LOL

You could use a color remover and then dye it again. Metalex is a good one you can get at Sally's if you used semi,or Colorfix if you used permanent.
However, you could just go ahead and use the le Blondissmes and that should lighten it enough.I have done that before myself. To get the color on the box you may have to do it more then once though.

DON'T PUT ANY OF THE CRAP ON YOUR HAIR.

You need to read my post "AN INTRODUCTION TO HAIRCOLORING" here http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=40328

Now before you read that here is what happened and why you have a green tint to your hair....

To start with your hair was blonde. In blonde hair the underlying pigment is gold or yellow. You chose a dark brown.....I'm going to assume this was an Ash based color. Because if it was Ash then the base is usually blue or blue green base. Lets flash back to art class and painting. You mix yellow with blue what is the end result of the color? GREEN! BINGO! In order to properly color your hair you need to understand the coloring process....what hair is before and where you want to get it to to achieve the color you want.

Now without going into more detail...DON'T get more color and put color over color thinking you will lighten it or alter the color. Color doesn't lighten or lift artificial color when apply color over it. Artificial color can only lighten virgin untinted hair. The only thing that lightens previously colored hair is bleach...and that is an whole other world unto itself....don't mess with bleach either.....Coming soon I'll post a fundamental understanding on the bleaching process....since summer is coming....they can sticky that along with my Intro to Haircoloring.

Cheers

you might be able to help me with this, i just posted a thing asking for help, but you seem to know this stuff..

I made the stupid mistake of putting color over color (black) for a good 2/3 years...and now that i stopped dying my hair about 4 months ago, i'm ready to go back to my natural color and stop messing with my hair for a while...
I wantedto know the least damaging way to do so...I know my hair will be damaged no matter what I do..but I wanted to know all my options...

If i were to use bleach and just apply it to where it is black and just put it till it fades to a lighter color then my natural color, and then apply a color that is close to my natural color will that work or no?

Thanks.
