Hello Ev'reebodeee.
I like to wear my bra length hair in the half up/half down style. Problem is, the little plastic clips I use (by Goody or Scunci) seem to damage my hair. When my hair is down, you can see an obvious row of frizz/damage which matches where my clip always goes. And that's my hair pet peeve! Aie!
I would use a fabric covered elastic, but my hair is so fine, it would just slide right out in an hour. Actually, most clips will slide right down and out of my hair in a couple of hours.
When my hair was shorter, I loved to wear it in a modified French Twist with a pouf of hair sticking up on top. But now, my hair seems much too heavy for this style. The clip can't grab enough hair and just flops down and away from my head. But those Scunci Comfort Clips are amazing if your hair is short enough for them!
So until I find a solution, it's wearing-it-down-all-the-time for me! I would appreciate any suggestions! I really should wear it up more often at work.

Ficcares! They are great! I don't own one, but I plan to soon! You can buy the real ones, or the knock offs. Claires sells the knock offs. There are different names for them...pelican clips, condor clips? And I think concorde clips?
When choosing a ficcare/"fake-are" you want to make sure there are no teeth, and no seams. It should be able to slide through your hair. The spring shouldn't be thin, and shouldn't be too difficult to open, or too loose. If you get one with seams, you could file it down though.
With a ficcare(or the fake-are) you can do many styles. Chignon, figure 8, french twist. They can hold regular buns too.

The real ficcares can be found at high-end department stores. Someone found a "fake-are" at "Dots".
I had a clip like that once, but I guess it was too small. It was just cheap flimsy plastic, and I got it at the drug store. When it closed, by hair squeezed right out the end. Wouldn't hold AT all. But I'm sure that's because it was a cheap imitation.
Maybe I'll look into one of those. Unfortunately, their website keeps crashing my browser before I can get to the area where they discuss price. I'll have to look at it later on my husband's computer.

Hmmm. I bought a Fake-are at Claire's. It was only $1.15 because it was 50% off when I bought a pair of Hair Sticks. (Which is another non-damaging hair-securing option I'd forgotten about)
Anyway, I wasn't expecting to like the $1.15 clip, I just wanted to get an idea for how a Ficcare would work in my hair, and whether I might want to spend $20+ on it.
Unfortunately, ALL of Claire's Fake-ares either had teeth or were made from sharp metal. Why would they put teeth on it? That makes it impossible to slide into a French Twist.
I think I will get one soon. http://www.tenderheaded.com says they're not for fine or medium hair, but I think my hair is long enough for it to work anyway. If not, I can always return it.

You are welcome. Thanks for pointing out that all the fake-ares at Claires have teeth . You could always cut the teeth off, then file them with a metal nail file. I'm not sure if there are a lot of teeth on them though. If you have a Trade Secrets near you, look for fake-ares, I think they carry better ones.
I know they make smaller, covered rubber bands. I know even some grocery stores carry a large selection of hair care supplies and certainly the kind of rubber bands you need.
