You should use a soft when your hair is low and a hard when your hair is thick.  You should also use a soft to work on your wave connections.

Use a soft or medium brush. There may be no need for a hard brush depending on the texture of your hair. I've noticed that people who are still working on their waves are always recommending when to use a hard brush. From my personal experience an Annie 2061 is an extremely hard brush and it's not recommend unless you have enough hair to comb.

Soft or medium when you have a fresh cut depending on your hair texture and hard brush when wolfin. I like the 2-sided wave enforcer brush. Its turning into my favorite.
