For that slant in the middle you can try something I learned on mistake. I started brushing against the grain on my right side for about three days. Then when I brushed it back with the grain, my waves straightened out more, and they connected better. Considering how well developed your waves are, messing up your pattern won't happen. If anything your hair will just go back to the exact same way it it now if it doesn't change.

My waves aren't perfectly striaght on the top either so instead of brushing with the handle to the side I brush with it pointing forward. It helped a lot.

Yep I do the same thing too. I also bought a long brush (bristles are 6 inches long and 3 inches wide). that way i can almost brush my whole top with one stroke. i'm just waitin to use it in about 2 weeks (i don't use hard brushes til my 9th or 10th week)
