QuoteReplyTopic: PLEASE give me advice!! Posted: May 21 2007 at 8:49pm
Well, let me start off by saying this is going to be a really long story but please take the time to read it and give me suggestions on what to do!
About three months ago I got my hair highlighted by one of my friends who works at a salon. I went there on a Friday night and we decided I wanted highlights, not too many, not too little. The girl put the bleach in my hair and put me under a dryer. Heres where the horror starts..I was under the heat with my hair processing for about a hour. I guess my hair was not "taking" the color and not turning blonde. Finally, the girl had washed my hair out and when I looked in the mirror I thought it was a joke. I had blotches of blonde/orange/red all over my hair randomly. I was upset but the girl (my friend) had told me she would fix my hair for me in the morning. She planned on coming over to my house to fix it. I ended up not getting a hold of her all day and having to call the salon at five. The manager called me back and said my friend would meet me there at 5:30. She re did my color and put me under the heat. I was under the heat for another two hours. Yes, I know I should have been aware that this is REALLY bad but I am not a hair dresser and honestly had no idea. Apparently she was getting annoyed that my hair was not turning color and she ended up just straight walking out of the salon around eight. One of the other stylists washed me out after...
I noticed a look on the girls face that made me really nervous. She then told me to go brush my hair. I went over to the mirror and my hair is almost white. Then, i go to brush it and it is falling out like crazy. It huge clumps of just white damaged hair. The stylist called the manager and she came to the salon and was giving me my money back and what not. Of course it did not make me feel any better. They put protein treatments in my hair every day for about a month after.
It has been 3 months now and my hair is so damaged I cannot wear it down. Honestly, I'm a 18 year old girl and my hair means alot to me and I cant even look in the mirror. It still falls out when I brush it sometimes. I can't blow dry it or straighten it. nothing. I'm close to cutting it all off. Its embarassing. I used to have gorgeous curly hair. It's nothing now.
I want to get a weave so I don't have to deal with it but I know that is a bad idea.
If anyone has ANYTHING they can suggest to help my hair please please please let me know!
and ps..me and the girl are NOT friends anymore.

Wow, what a horror story. I doubt there is much you can do but to start over. I wouldn't think of a weave at this point - it sounds like your hair is very damaged - maybe even the follicles.
I would consider cutting as short as you can stand and staying away from that ex-friend.
I'm so sorry to hear stories like this. The moral of it is "friends don't let friends do hair" where not only is the hair ruined, the friendship is too. Much better to deal with strangers in a business who are more obligated to treat you in a more professional manner.
I don't know much about extensions, you can peruse the extensions board here to see if there are any kinds that do not cause so much breakage. If all you can find are kinds that do cause breakage, I wouldn't go that route because you don't want it to make more hair fall out shorter. ((((hugs hugs))))

thank you guys!! yeah I'm actually going to a really good professional next Tuesday and she is going to cut my hair and see what I need to do. Maybe weave is a bad idea but I want pretty hair a for a little while! lol

When I was reading your post my mouth fell open. What an unforgivable thing your so called friend has done, not only to your hair, but walking out the salon and leaving you.
Thank god your no longer friends. I am a hairdresser and to be honest with you, I hate working with bleach, because of the damage it can cause. When I do use it on clients I am always close by checking their hair every five minutes, I never leave it on for more than 45 mins and never under heat, as heat causes the bleach to process quicker, causing more damage to the hairs cuticle.
Sometimes the problem is that some clients are not truthful if they have had previouse colours, its not always obviouse to us the stylist, as even semi permanent is hard to dectect sometimes.
I am so sorry you had this bad experiance, I only hope you have managed to get something done with your hair, now, please be patient it will grow back.
