Does anyone know of any products that will enhance curl. I have wavy hair that I am trying to get as much curl out of as I can. Is there anything out there that isn`t a gimmick, but would actually increase the curl and hold it? Short of a perm that is ...

Sexy Hair has a full line of curl enhancing products called Curly Sexy Hair that I am very happy with. I have also used Back To Basics Curl Enhancing products and found them to be quite good too. I use the shampoo, conditioner, and styling gel of both these lines and have gotten good results with both. Happy curling!

I really like the Curl Friends product line. They have quality products and it is sold on this site. Go to the Marketplace and check them out.

Do the curl friend products actually enhance curl or are they just for curly hair. I`m looking for a product/products that will really enhance and pump up the curl in my naturally wavy hair.

If they do GREAT! I just would like to verify that before spending the money on these.

Thanks and looking forward to my curlier locks!

Do you know where I can find both of these? Are they sold only in salons? Or elsewhere? I`d like to give them a try

Thanks!

Both Curly Sexy Hair (http://www.spiralhaircase.com/CSH.html) and Back To Basics Curl Enhancing (http://www.adiscountbeauty.com/page162.html) products are available on line. The Curly Friends products does SOME curl enhancing but not quite as much as these products. It really balances the hair`s natural oils and that causes the curl to be revitalized. All three are very good products. Let us know which one works the best for you.

Well, I have been using the Back to Basics shampoo and gel for curly hair for about a week now. I get very minimal results from them as far as enhancing the curl in my hair. I have a feeling I may not have enough natural curl. When I stopped at the salon to buy it I talked to one of the stylists as well and they thought it would work too. Oh well ... at least I like the smell:)

Looks like if I really want the amount of curl I was hoping for its back to perm rods.

Thanks for your help Merlin

You`re welcome. Sorry it didn`t work out for you like you had hoped. If you want temporary curls instead of the commitment of a perm, check out http://www.heatcap.com/. It is a very interesting product that a friend of mine has tried and it works very well for her. Her curls last almost two days. Something to consider. Happy curling!!

I, too, have a friend that has the Heatcap and she LOVES it...no cord to mess with and the curls last a very long time. We had been using Sleepers curlers and they work really well but with this product we can get great curls in less time than it would take with hot rollers. I do recommend a silk cap over the curlers if you decide to try it. I really like the results we get with this product.

Now thats an interesting product! It actually reminds me of something I do occassionally when I want long lasting sets. I bought one of the caruso steam setters several years ago and after using it a few times I wanted more flexibility than the rollers that came with it. It dawned on me to try setting my hair on perm rods (white) and then I set a large pan of water boiling and held my perm "rodded" hair over it for about 5 minutes. The results were awesome!!! (after letting it cool for about 5 minutes - now I even use the "cool" setting on my hairdryer to really lock it in) The curl was so firm and held so great - I could even add product and it would barely loosen the curl. It`s the closest thing I`ve come up with to a perm without actually getting one.

This heatcap sounds like maybe it acheives the same type of result and gives the same type of flexibility in selection of various rollers. I just may have to give this a go - I`m always a sucker for new curling techniques

I`ll share my results if I do! Thanks

That`s exactly the way my friend uses it. She used to get 2 perms a year to keep her curls fresh and wanted to give her hair a break from the chemicals. We tried various curling techniques (some worked better than others) but this one produces the best curls yet. We started using medium rollers first but have also used very small ones (we have discussed using perm rods but haven`t as yet - with your results maybe we will) and gotten terrific results with both of them. The big plus is her hair is still in great shape and we didn`t have to use chemicals to get the curls she wants. Very cool product that I can highly recommend. I hope it works as well for you :) Happy curling!!

Let me know if you ever try the perm rods ... I`m curious to hear what your results are with that product. In fact ... if you don`t mind trying it I`d love to hear the details before I go out and buy it because a lot of what I would use it for is perm rod sets (rather than my steaming over a pan of water technique - but I do have to say again how great that works).

Let me know!

Happy curling!!!

She is out of town for the holidays but I will discuss it with her when she returns. I`ll let you know what she decides and how it turns out. HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND CURLS!

Hi Spiraltresses

My friend came back from her holiday vacation and, as I promised, we dicussed using her Heatcap with perm rods. She was game and the curls turned out TERRIFIC! We even did a spiral (candlestick) wrap around her face and they turned out very nice too.

She has rather fine hair but LOTS of it so we used many jumbo rods (her hair is mid-back length). The curls turned out very nice and lasted a little over 2 days. The more I use the product, the more I like it. The look of a perm without the chemicals.

Since you said that you would probably use perm rods to get the maximum curl, I can tell you they work great with the Heatcap and should give you the look you want.

Go for it! ;)

Thank you (and your friend) for being a guinea pig for me:) Sounds like it was a good experience - spiral ringlets around the face is such a nice feminine touch!

Over the holiday I did a couple sets on perm rods and steamed them over a boiling pan of water. I absolutely LOVE the results, but based on what you experienced with the heatcap, maybe I`ll order that.

Were you able to add product to the hair after (like a silicon product) to form the curls and keep them shiny?

I`ll let you know if I get it and try it. My hair is a lot shorter so I`m guessing the results would be great as well.

I will pass along your thanks.

She doesn`t like to use too many products so we haven`t put anything her curls yet. If we do, I`ll let you know how it works.

I have recommended products/appliances in the past and gotten mixed results. What works for one doesn`t mean it will work for everyone. However, since you do a very similar thing anyway, I think this will work for you as well as it does us.

Good luck and happy curling! ;)
