Somebody please help me. I have fine blonde hair that`s about and inch or so below my shoulders. I have been trying to grow it out for a year or so (after a horrendous short do-will never do that again). My problem is my hair grows slow and I am a vegetarian so I already have problems getting all my intake in. My hair also tends to be on the dry side too. I`m pretty new at growing it out healthily so any suggestions on supplements, shampoos, or whatever I will be forever indebted.

Hi Traci,

Unless you`re eating a lot of junk food, you shouldn`t have trouble on a vegetarian diet. I`ve given birth to two very healthy babies on a vegetarian diet! If you`re vegan (no eggs or dairy), you may want to take a general multi-vitamin, though as vitamin B12 is very difficult (if at all) to be found in non-animal products.

Your hair is genetically determined to grow to a certain length. The only way vitamins will help is if you`re deficient in a certain area. If you`re consuming all the vitamins and minerals your body requires, then no other vitamins and minerals taken interanlly will help.

To keep your hair in as healthy state as possible, besides eating a nutrtionally healthy diet, condition the ends of your hair religiously -- every time you shampoo.

Do you use a hair dryer, curling iron, or any other heating implements? They can also damage hair if overdone.

Don`t forget to receive trims every once in awhile from someone whom you really trust. Once the the end of a single hair is split, absolutely nothing will repair it, and it can split up all the way to your head, leaving your hair is very poor condition.

Can you tell us anything more about what you do to your hair?

Jennifer

I am a complete junk food junkie. I`m a poor graduate student so I really don`t have the chance to get everything I need. I did buy some H37 but that`s just too much money for me to be spending each month so I was looking to try something a little cheaper until I have the funds. Well my hair is just a mess I guess you could say. It`s fine and has tons of frizz because of all the broken off ends. I did resort to using childrens shampoo because I`ve tried everything and it`s just harsh. I was using a regular conditioner too but that just weighed my hair down so much that it was a complete limp mop. So now I just use a spray in and then deep condition it 1 to 2 times a week. Normally I just comb my hair and then put it back in a pony bun or low pony tail without blowdrying. I do usually dry it 1 to 2 times a week for my internship since we`re supposed to "be presentable". It`s getting better but I just want to find a way to get it so it won`t break off as much and be healthier. My hair never was this bad until I went to college, but I eat better now so who knows!
