Thanks. I have not even spoke with the one lady I was able to find that does braids about price. Im kind of afraid to. Im worried she will charge a ridiculous amount but if I have already gotten the hair, what can I do?
Unfortunately I am very limited here as to who can do braids and tracks and sew ins. I live in NH which is a very rural sort of state and not a lot of ethnic diversity. Its frustrating at times. This braider I found is in Boston and that is close enough that I can drive for upkeep. I will probably be locked into whatever she wants me to pay and then once I get to Boston, keep my eyes open for other salons if shes too high.
I've worn then ALL and sew in wefts works the best for me. Although, if you are using many tracks the tape that Sherrie sells is the best way to go. You can find them at www.hairextensions101.com If you only use 1 or 2 tracks it is possible to put them in yourself. If you practice on a doll head a few times you can get the basic idea. While you are practicing, a tip is try not to look when you are making the track on your doll head, then it will be easier to put your own in without looking. Like everything else to do with extensions, it takes time and practice, and of course desire. If you put your mind to it, you will be able to succeed. Even if it's messy, it will still hold up for your track. For take down have a friend use small scissors and cut all the thread and rubber bands. When making your own tracks it's much easier if you use small rubber bands. That way you can put your hands down without loosing the whole cornrow.
I found fusion to be way too much maintenance. They do feel more natural but who needs to be in front of the mirror everyday touching them up or one falling out during the day and putting it in your purse to re-attach when you get home. blah!
I have one track, double wefted. I'm thinking of getting a second track for my next install. My advice, tell the braider not to do it too tight. Even if you have to go back every four weeks it's better than a tight braid (in my opinion) Also, try to find someone who is reasonably priced. I pay $30/track. My track is in a swoop / horseshoe shape. It goes from temple down to mid-ear level back up to the other temple.
I am sooo sold on the sew in Malibu! I have not done it yet (Im lazy) but its definitely the next method. Im just done with fusion and bonds. Some people love them and they do give a lot of natural movement but for my fine hair (only getting finer with age and extension wear) I am finding I cant do all those attachments as easily so the sew in is hopefully the solution. They will have to pry extensions from my cold, dead hands thats for sure.

A lot of people love the adhesive method (yes, never use latex!!) but I didn't feel "right" putting glue on my head and using acetone to remove it. I wore clip-ins for over a year and got really tired of them. They're not always comfortable, I'd have my good days and bad days. Anywho, now I have a sew in and every day is a good day!! I never feel the track, ever. It's like my own hair even when I'm sleeping. I really love it!! Oh, and I can do deep conditioning treatments without worries of the track falling out.

I'll second that - patience is KEY in removal. However when it comes to the type of glue I'd try to avoid latex based ones, they dont' seem to hold as well and they are a PITA to remove! I've heard a few stories of ladies who like it, but more often than that I hear stories like mine where the latex did damage. (tapes and liquid gold are not latex based adhesvies btw)

nope...I have no trouble at all with this. The most important thing with takedown is patience and being careful...with any method of takedown. Most damage results from either not taking enough time or not being careful. With any glue or adhesive removal I would suggest having a couple of different types of remover on hand. Everyone has different experiences with removers, and most importatnly make sure to allow the remover to WORK and dont tug or pull the bonds out, let the remover soak & break down the bond and they should come out without alot of effort.
thank you....hope they work for me....I think I am most concerned about the glue though and what it might do to my hair coming off....have you ever had trouble with this?

I think the 'perfect method' is different for everyone, depending on your needs and what you wish to achieve with extensions.And some methods just dont work for some people. I have tried just about everything but a sew in. Ive done fusion and shrinkies, links links with wefts, glue bonded wefts, taped wefts.. you name it. For me personally I have found that weft methods are a better choice simply becuase my hair is fine and if I attach individuals properly (applying an equal or near equal amount of extensions per natural hair) I dont get the fullness and volume I desire.With wefts I can add much more hair and get the length AND volume that I want. I used an loved LG for along time. Still love LG. But I find the tape methods much easier and quicker to install and takedown. I get a good long lasting hold from the tapes. So for me this is the best possible extension method for my hair.
Just spend plenty of time researching the forums and asking questions. You may have to try a few things before you decide what you really like and what works the best for you.
so I'm trying to find the best possible extension method for my hair....I heard about trackless extensions on glamourhair, and another member mentioned she had a friend they worked very well for. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would love to find the *perfect* extension method, and GL doesn't seem to have very good reviews....
