Honey you are looking for the Holy Grail! :) Everyone wants a permanent bright unnatural color but it just aint gonna happen. Bleaching and Manic Panic is the way to go. Bleach to a yellow color. You will need to bleach your whole head starting with the lengths, when they are almost light enough put the bleach on the roots and watch it closely. Don`t bleach to white or your hair will break off. Then wash it twice to remove the bleach and put on the Manic Panic. I suggest "Plum" if they still make that shade. If you want it a black plum add a LITTLE "Ebony". Thats what I used to use in the 80`s. Use an old tooth brush for the hairline and around the ears. This can be messy so be very careful. Leave it on at least an hour. Rinse with your head under the tap, NOT in the shower. You will get a purple body. Apply the purple every two weeks to keep it super fresh. Use a color treated hair shampoo, don`t wash everyday, use a deep conditioner(not hot oil-desolves color). Oh, I am so envious! Purple and crows feet do not mix well! LOL!
hmmm manic panic is not permenant its semi-permanent, it lasts from anywhere from a week to 3 months it just depends on your hair type. If you live in a big city most likely you have a salon which does have permanent purple dyes, weird colors are VERY rare.
Btw i have found a new type of hair dye which you can find at sally`s (dunno if other places have it.) Its MC Max by Miss Clarol...even though they do not have pure purple, they have different shades which have purple in it, their is one which is called Wicked blonde, and i believe the main base of it is just purple. It is supposed to create a white blonde with purple tint, i have yet to try much of their products.
The first one that i tried was Sinful Ruby its base was pure red, and it created like a REALLY bright red, it lasted unatural red for about a month, but it still stayed a really bright red for a while...if it weren`t for the fact that i`m not planning to dye my hair again anytime soon, i could have told you results of their blue shades.
hope that helps

When you actually dye your hair purple, the best way to make it permanent is to first bleach your hair and then dye it purple -- this is the basis of Manic Panic dye, which is a permanent dye (I believe).
However....that`s an awfully lot of stress on your hair! If you have long hair, I`d really think twice about dyeing it. I know it`s expensive, but I`d highly suggest that, at least for the first time, you get it done at a salon. If you ruin your hair, you may be introduced to a "chemical" haircut. It isn`t a pretty sight; hair just breaks off.
I`m curious; did you highlight your hair at home? I`ve had highlights at a salon, but as I understand it, adding highlights at home is extremely difficult.
Whatever you do, though, please let us know, because I`m curious to see what works best for you!
I have very long dark brown hair, which I highlighted with purple not too long ago. I want to dye my whole head now, but my problem is the dye washes out. Will someone suggest some purple dyes that are not wash out or stay in longer thatn three washes. I would really appreciate the feedback. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As long as stars are born War will not end The darkness calls to the light and the liaght calls again to the darknes.
