I have rainbow colors in my hair, but they`re synthetic extensions. However, to be wild and daring, I separated a section of my natural hair and applied the Manic Panic blue color. The directions said to wait 5 to 15 minutes. To be sure, I waited nearly a half an hour.
I realize that the hair needs to be light. My natural hair is medium blonde. So, I waited about a half an hour, rinsed out the dye, and........nothing!
Apparently, the hair needs to be stripped of all color. Forget it -- I`ll just rely on the synthetic extensions!
Yes, this is one problem with Manic Panic. Hair that is darker than blonde has to have the Bleach Lightening Kit applied first for the color to take. Eric and Ryan, our teen male advisors tried Manic Panic without the bleach kit. They tried Spring Green and Hot Pink. Eric has dark brown hair and Ryan has red hair. NO CHANGE after 2 hours. That is because they did not use the Bleach Lightening.
So yes, it does require striping.
Sorry it didn`t work for you.
Best wishes, Karen
