Hair cut !!

I`m thinking of getting my hair cut tomorrow, but I probably won`t go through with it until I get a definite style in mind. My situation is, I have long hair that almost reaches my butt, all one length, straight and brown. I`ve been growing it for years, but not so much because I like long hair, as I am a bit of a haircut fetishist, but because the longer the hair, the more fun it will be to cut it off!! Yet, I am a shy fetishist. The shortest my hair has ever been was to my shoulders, when I was about 17 (I`m now 20). I have never ever had a definite style, unless you count the bangs I had when I was 9.

So, what I am looking for is a shorter style, somewhere between the shoulders and my ears, but something with a definite style. I have almost been tempted to just hack it off at my chin or so, but I know that with no layers or general style it will just look like a shorter version of what I have now, and I will be desperate for it to grow again. I am a bit chunky, but have been working out and trying to eat better over the past several months, so I`m trying to develop my confidence in my own self image (thus, a better haircut will be a catalyst!!) Any suggestions of styles, links, would be greatly appreciated! My face is fairly oval, if that helps, and currently my hair is in decent condition, reasonably thick, except that I`ve got some massive split-ending happening toward the bottom. Also, I have a lot of shorter hairs that have broken off because I used to wash my hair when wet, so that I have almost sort of bangs that reach to my chin and sort of frame my face in front.
