In reading about the 1920s and 1930s, I came across the terms "finger waving" and "Marcel Waving".
What does this mean - are these a kind a perm or not?

Marcel waving was a process that put permanent, flat waves in the hair-you`ll see it in old movies from the 30`s. It was a permanent process, but it required the person to be hooked up to a machine that put the waves in-cold perm solution came about in the 1940`s.

I suppose finger waving would be trying to do the same thing manually, but I don`t know what the end result would look like.

Finger waving is not permanent. It done with a comb and your fingers. And it is still taught today, you have to know this to pass your hair test.
