I couldn't back comb to save my life. I want big hair... you know those teen girls with the longhair and they kinda look like aliens with the huge height they seem to get from backcombing? I WANT that...

I now have medium length hair with layers... how the hell do you get a good backcomb?

Do you really need a backcombing brush? Hairspray? Lots of it!?

Some ideas would be kick ass!

Bambi-Lee if you want that big hair, you might ask your hairdresser to set your hair on rollers or roller set your hair or use hot rollers yourself. That should give your hair more volume and make it easier to backcomb after, as you won't need as much backcombing.

Your hair looks very attractive already though.

Backcombing is hell on hair, especially porous hair or hair that has splits.

If you want to do it, just hold the ends of the hair and comb or brush it backwards until you've got a big knotty mess, then smooth a layer of the topmost hair over it so its tall but looks smooth, then spray that in place.  I've also seen it where they spray the big knotty part and let that dry before doing the smoothing.
