Okay this thread is not intended to gross people out but I知 sure it will.

I wear a weave and I only do a full shampoo once a week. I usually do a top hair wash in the sink about half way through the week if the hair becomes too oily.

I just did my full shampoo today and my hair was a little on the oily side, I will admit. So what I did and actually I do this before full shampoo unless I知 in a hurry. I slightly wet down my hair starting from the root and kind of move all that oil down to the ends. Then I hop in the shower and do a good thorough shampoo (I知 just using a L丹real moisturizing one right now) and suds up real good and rinse through.

I must say my natural hair and extensions feel fantastic. My natural hair also seems to have grown with less breakage than before the weave was installed.

Interesting! I never saw that before. Thanks. I dont think I will go that far with it. I mean I will probably just keep doing what Im doing with one shampoo a week and continue to use some shampoo but it is true that the scalp does seem to regulate itself.

The natural oils also seem to make the hair a lot softer. I worry about odor though so I will shampoo.

Thanks for the tips.  This is not gross at all.  In fact, a lot of friends who wear extensions only wash once a week so they can be careful with the bonds.

A lot of my friends use dry shampoo to stretch them through the week with really good results.  The key is to keep the dry shampoo off the extensions.  A friend pulls her extensions into a big shower cap and then pulls her bangs and front parts out and then sprays with a powder shampoo and then combs the powder out.  You can not tell that her hair is oily or dirty at all and it looks good.

I have seen a can of dry shampoo at the drug store. It says can be used on human hair wigs. I have never used it. What is it exactly and how does it clean hair with just an arousal? Does it really clean or is like an odor cover up?

I have found that once the scalp is adjusted to being shampooed only once a week, it doesn稚 seem to produce as much sebum as quickly.

I have a friend with naturally very long hair, down her back. Its not extensions, just her real hair and she also has only ever done a full shampoo when needed. The reason is the more hair you have or the longer, it does take more time to dry it and such so it can be a hassle and too much to try and do every day. Her hair is very healthy so there is something to it.

Women back in the 50's would routinely get their "set" and then wash it but once a week or before a new set. That was the norm for a long time until shampoo and cosmetic companies realized they could make a lot of money selling product if they emphasized "hygiene" as the reason to shampoo every day. I think Gillette was actually the first company to start a major advertising campaign in this direction.
