How to get my hair cut?

I'm growing my hair out long and I want to end up with a style similar to Sawyer in Lost, Tom Cruise in MI2 or Denis Leary in Rescue Me. Here's some pics:
 
 
 
 
So next time I go the the salon, how should I get it cut? My hair's already farly long, the front goes down a little bit over my eyes.

To me those styles appear like a version of the mullet.Sorta longish in the back and shorter on top. If I were you I'd just print out those pics and take them to a salon with you.
Depending on how your hair is cut now,the stylist will cut your hair at different stages until it is grown out to this look.
