Results of Angie Tape Install After 11 Days

11 days ago Angie had a tape install with Chinese hair.

The hair felt nice when it was first purchased and was soft (although not exactly silky) during the install.  However, Angie became disenchanted with the hair which she explained became progressively drier by the day.

She also noticed fading on one side where the pink highlights were added as extra highlights.

Over the past few days she reported if she did not wear her hair in pigtails or braids, she noted the hair felt like a bristle brush on her bare skin and felt like it was "stabbing her in the neck".

She also reported if she "whipped her hair around just a few times, the ends would instantly tangle and the back would also knot up very easily.  The longer she wore the hair, the less she liked it.

Of course we all understood at the beginning that to bleach hair to the platinum level that Angie desired, would take a toll on the softeness and feel of the hair.  However, it seemed to get extremely bristly in a matter of a few days.  I think Sherrie calls it "squirrel butt hair"  LOL.

Angie did not wash her hair every day and tried to wash it as infrequently as possible without letting it get too oily or tangled.

She tried to soften the coarseness of the dry strands by doing hot oil and various deep conditioning treatments.  She also took special care when she washed her hair and minimized use of hot tools.

Angie liked the overall tape install and how it felt on her head but one of the sections at the very top of her scalp started to curl up.  She had a friend use a rubber type glue (more on that later) to reinforce the tape in that one section.

Today Angie asked that the install be removed because it was stabbing her skin non-stop and she could no longer stand the roughness of the hair.

I will post the steps of how we did the removal tomorrow.  I also have photos of Billy and I while the install was removed from Angie's head.

Ooooo, it doesn't even look like the same hair. Yeah, bleaching already processed hair can be very drying and overall damaging. Has she tried hydrating shampoos and conditioners such as Pantene and Sunsilk I believe has one. Did she flat iron to smooth it and help it blend with her own hair? I can see that her own hair needs flat ironing too. Sherrie and Frenchie can give tips on how to deal with the tape I'm sure. I think she may be able to correct the problems and get longer wear out of this install unless Billy really feels that this hair is shot.

Hi Ms. Honey,

Unfortunately Angie was not loving the hair.  Billy and I tried to convince her to try different hydrating products and flat iron but she said that unless she wore her hair off her neck, she felt constant irritation for the bristly edges of the hair.  She wanted it OFF and as soon as possible.  So it was taken off this afternoon.

I have photos but did not have time to post them yet.  We show step by step of the removal and Billy trimmed her hair afterwards to clean the ends up a bit.

Yes..we wanted her to hang in there longer but she didn't want to keep the hair on and I couldn't argue with her not wanting to have a bristle brush rubbing her skin non-stop.  I felt the hair, it did feel like stubble on the ends.

Bottom line?  Getting good hair is key AND when you want to go with bleached blonde....understand that it WILL get dry and scruffy unless it is really really high quality hair.

Hey Ms. Honey
I did use a hydrating shampoo thats the paul mitchell brand I use it on a normal basis but the hair just seemed to be in real bad condition after the first wash. Normally when i do install it will last a long time.

awww so sorry to hear that the hair didnt work out.

Yep, I have to say that for us blondes and light colors its very hard to find good quality hair as its so highly processed. And there are very few brands that have been able to produce blondes and maintain quality.

I dont think there is anything you could have done Angie, to revive the hair. If its that bad, dry and damaged, nothing is gonna help. (Been there several times, and there is no help for hair that is badly overprocessed)

Overall did you like the tape install? How did that particular tape hold up? I havent tried this tape that you used. My preferred tape is supertape and I find it gives me a really long hold. I am curious about the tape at the top that curled up, as I have never seen the tape do that. Also, that one tape at the top that you can see, may be just a little too high and next time you might need to go just a little lower. (Just a matter of tweaking the placement a little it looks like)

Hey hon,
Would you consider doing it again if they can find a high quality platinum  hair? Would you like to try it with extensions the color of your darker color? Is it black or brown? I can't tell.

Yes i really liked the tape install. Overall it was a great install. The hair was the only part i did not like. It would be fun to try another tape install with my darker (dark brown) hair color. The tape held really good. The top piece is the one you said needed replaced Sherrie.

Hi Angie,
You should definitely try it with dark brown extensions. Maybe something like Bohyme or a virgin remy hair.

Thanks Ms.Honey, you are right.

Angie, I was cleaning my hair drawer and saw the bohyme clip ins I wore for a long time. I was shocked at how well that hair held up, it's still good. It was #4 silky straight and I got it from Sherrie. I don't think that hair will stab you in the neck but at least it's starting to get colder and you can wear a turtle neck.
