Congrats on being weave free, that is an accomplishment.

Although weaves have not worked for you, for some it may be of assistance when taken care of properly.

Once again, congrats!

Here here.. No breakage here.. Everything is growing NICE and healthy.. When I decided to grow out my short short haircut the wait was like watching paint dry.. My weave gave me INSTANT gratification..Tongue

i would have to say that my hair is healthy becouse of weaves ,,,during the winter time i give my hair a much needed break....i condition, and take care of it more..i know plenty of women who use weaves to create hair stlyes that would normally damage their own hair BUT they create this on the weave therefore saving their real hair......during the winter time my hair doesn't have to be seen so much..thats when i really can give it more attention..wigs especially work well.
don't chase me unless your ready to catch me!!!

You bring up a good point.. After making this first wig, I think I'm gonna switch up my winter do's to wigs. I won't be wearing them as much in the summer since I like to swim a lot. For the summer the weave or braids will work better when swimming..

well i wanted my hair to get in the best shape ever! i was able to accomplish this with LF's.. i could let the chemicals go, daily manipulation and the heat and i've gotten so much extreme growth and my hair is so much more healthy b/c i was able to do this.. its extremely important with black hair that moisture is needed to obtain and keep growth without breakage.. more chemical processes just keep black hair in a damaged state and the kind of damage that breakage usually occurs.. so with that being said, for some that have learned how to wear the weave without causing harm to their natural hair it can be done! but i've gotten the best results from lf's as a protective style that allows my hair to stay moist and healthy and avoid all the chemcial processes that destroy black hair..

ITA! I wear weaves occasionally to help me keep manipulation to a minimum and retain more length. I get lots of growth with a weave than any protective style and only keep it it for a moth at the most because of all the growth. I still wash my hair weekly and take care of my scalp and hair underneath and I think this is the step that most people skip which in the long run result in dry damage hair that breaks with the slightest touch; hence giving weaves a bad reputation.

I kinda agree with you. weaves can be very expensive! I have experienced some hair loss when wearing weaves with occasional breakage. My hair has been doing so much better since I gave them up. My edges were thinning too! weaves can be a nice protective style if it is done correctly and if you wear it for only a 2 weeks max but i never did....lol.
