I know a lot of people say silicone is really bad but I don't agree. It can build up so I use a clarifying poo once a month. Silicone binds the cuticle which makes the hair look healthy and gives it shine.
As for individuals and your hair, I'm not sure that's the best/easiest method but I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. You just may need close to an entire head of strands to blend well.
There are several places you can go to in NYC. Lugos is one vendor that I've heard and read good reviews. (212) 979-5160 205 1st Ave, New York, NY 10003
Also, trueindianhair in Brooklyn deals with virgin Indian hair. http://www.trueindianhair.com Karen is the owner and she is a great business woman.

I'm thinking I might try a few strands of Indian to start & see how they work out. With any luck I'll be able to remove the extensions in 12-18 months.
I'm thinking the same about the stylist. She had, ummm, issues.
I'm in NJ, about 20 minutes from NYC. I'm sure there must be suppliers around, but I have yet to locate any other than Newark, & a trip to Newark isn't high on my list of things to do on the weekend. If you guys know of any, please share!
My favorite curl product is Phytospecific Beauty Styling Creme. That stuff rocks! It worked great w/my naturally curly hair & works really well w/the extensions. I was told to stop using silicone but I started again a few weeks ago just on the ends to add some shine. My name is Laura & I'm a product addict.

Ya think? It was such a disaster! The last 4 inches were so tangly I couldn't get a wide-tooth comb through it. It shed & I lost a lot of strands when I did try to comb it. It was dry & knotty, although it did look much, much better after I cut it.
I think it looks good. The color match is bang on. I know from my own hair it's really hard to match curl texture. I tried the virgin Russian hair and I was only able to get a very loose wave, barely a wave. Also, the Russian hair is probably too silky for your hair. The Indian hair I got has a great curl. For some reason there's a myth that Indian hair is coarse but it's not all coarse. My hair is fine and it blends better than any hair I've used in the past.
I'm guessing your stylist didn't want you to know where the hair was from because she probably made a profit from selling the hair to you. It's too bad the hair didn't hold up. Was that a weft install?
I understand not wanting to flat iron. It's just going to further damage your hair. My advice is to do a weft method, glue or sew in and install at least three double wefted rows. You may get away with two double wefted rows depending on what hair you use.
Where are you located? Are there any hair shops near you? If not you can find a vendor that will work with you so you can send them your picture and they can find an appropriate match. Also, Wagman sends samples for free. You might as well see what they have.
One more thing, have you tried any curl enhancers? I use Noodle head from Sally's. It does a good job at minimizing the frizz.

You know, it's interesting you say that b/c I was told the same thing in my first two consults. Now, bear in mind that pic was taken right after the install & it did blend a bit better after I washed it. Also it was a very humid July. Frizziness is a way of life in the northeast during July.
Now, almost 6 mos. later, my hair is a bit longer (it grows pretty fast, maybe 1/2 inch a month) & it's blending much better. While I wasn't happy w/the 2 different textures, having just curly in my hair has turned out beautifully. It looks almost exactly the way my hair looked before the "disaster" hit.
Also I am very hesitant about using a flat iron. What I want is to grow my own curls back, which means little to no heat. Before the extensions I was blow-drying straight every day--not only time consuming (hence the fugly short cut) but also very damaging.
I'll try to get a more recent pic up there in the next couple of days but I must admit, Friday afternoon was the first time I got really excited about my extensions. Now all I do is a little diffusing right before I walk out the door.
And Ms.Honey, thanks for the honesty. I do appreciate it & next time no need to ask.

Ok hon, here's the deal. Neither the curly nor the wavy textures are going to match. Your hair is way too frizzy for either. It's obvious that you have extensions in your hair.
I know you don't want to do anything that may further damage your hair but from what I can tell from your pics your easiest option is to flat iron your hair and buy straight extensions. That's if you can get your natural hair straight enough.
Now you can TRY to use a kinky curly texture but your going to need to order some samples to see if you can get a match.

Oh, & it was 2 different textures--a curly texture, kind of like the french refined, & a wavy texture, kind of like the french body. Now I just have curly--got rid of the wavy--b/c it's closer to my natural curl.
I'm not sure of the supplier, the tech brought it with her & she was really secretive about where she got her hair.
Ms.Honey--the 1st pic was my own, natural hair. Then I got a curl reducer done which was the biggest mistake of my life & the reason I got extensions. As you can see, it completely destroyed my hair so I went w/the extensions until my curls grow back to a, ummm, more feminine length.

Think Andie McDowell with more frizz. What do you think? Should I give Indian a shot or stick w/Russian virgin? My hair is thick but very fine so I thought the Russian would be OK, but it seems like the curly hair has all been overprocessed.

How curly is your hair? Can you post a picture? Also what color is your hair? Depending on your curl, in my experience (since I have curly hair) the Indian hair is the best match.

I'm searching online & can't seem to find any--it's all for weaves. I'm having a pretty tough time finding decent curly hair. The new stuff is better but still kind of tangly & dry.
I think I'd like to try Indian hair--it's been recommended to me on this forum for curls. Is Bohyme the best? Or will any Remy do? Any other recommendations would be much appreciated!
