I'm getting my hair cut shortish tomorrow so that I can stick the front out like a lot of guys do. I've had this style before, and the only reason I didn't like it was because the gel (which I needed to get the hair to stay how I wanted it) made my hair really crispy and not very nice to touch. Plus I didn't like how it made my hair shiny and fake looking. And I couldn't even think about running my fingers through my hair -- if I did that it would all fall back down into its natural state. What I want is something that'll hold my hair in place, but not look shiny or get crispy. Like this:

Any ideas? Keep in mind that my hair is very stubborn and WANTS with all its might to fall flat on my forehead.

That is a problem with styles that attempt to hold hair in a direction it doesn't naturally go, you need glue to make it stay, and no glue leaves hair soft and allows you to run your hands through it.

One thing you could try is sleeping with a cap on (any hat that would be comfortable to sleep in).  Get your hair a little damp before bed, move it whatever direction you want it to go (maybe push it back over the top of your head if you don't want it flat) and let it dry under it.  Chances are you'll wake up with hair that sticks straight up, but it will probably fall flat in a while if you don't add product.  Something to try.  If it doesn't come out the way you want, you'll just have to wet it again and do your usual.
