Hey. I'm a male, 17 years, with relatively long hair (5cm below the shoulders, I'd say). The thing is, I have plenty of volume. That wouldn't bother me (I like it this way), but it's very dry, in addition. It looks like this:

I use shampoo for dry hair and conditioner and a soothing serum from redken after the shower (otherwise, the hair would be much more split and fuzzy). In addition, I have a skin condition that causes rashes and dry skin, caused by an excess of oil, I believe. Should I be using a shampoo for oily hair? Also, I use a pony tail and I want to loose it. Should I cut my hair on levels (I don't know what's the name) instead of having it at the same length? One of my anguishes is that I can't shake my head because I look like a mop after that lol Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi.The hairstyle you are thinking of is called LAYERING. If you get longer layers, you can still put hair into a ponytail.Shorter layers tend to fall out.It may make your hair seem not so thick.

I think your skin condition is called Serrborheic Dermatitis (spelling?)
My husband has it and uses Head and Shoulders so he doesnt get the patches of dry skin on his scalp.Sometimes that isnt enough for some people though and they have to use a prescription shampoo.

Head and shoulders is good if you have oily hair.It can make your hair feel dry on the ends though,so you'll want a good conditioner.

Have you ever tried Infusium 23? It is an excellent conditioner.

I have hair kinda like yours, which can be a pain because it is oily on top and dry on the rest.It requires different treatments.
You do have very nice hair though!

Looks like nice hair to me.  Jules gave you good tips.  If head and shoulders doesn't wind up helping, you could try diluting your shampoo and see if that helps.  Shampoo is over-concentrated and this overdries your hair and scalp.  This overdrying of the scalp makes your scalp produce more oil.  Diluting your shampoo might be enough to fix the dry skin problem, the oilyness, and the rashes, (especially if the rash is caused by detergents in the shampoo).  Many people also experience less dandruff when they switch to diluted shampoo.

Mix your shampoo in water -half and half or less shampoo - mix it in a small bottle and only make up what you need for one use (don't leave it sitting around diluted).  Roll it to mix, don't shake it.  Use enough of the mix that you still get suds when you wash.

Use conditioner for your dry hair, only from the ears down, not on your scalp.  Conditioner on the scalp can also cause issues you might otherwise not have.
