QuoteReplyTopic: NEED HELP WITH NEW EXTENSIONS Posted: January 09 2008 at 8:42pm
Hi, I just got Great Lengths extensions put in my hair today. This is my second set. My first set I loved so much, they lasted 6 months. When I went back to my hair stylist I told her to order the same hair as last time. She wanted me to buy different hair extenions this time, but I wanted Great Lengths since I had a good experience with them. When I went in today to get them put in they looked shorter then the first ones I put in. She insisted they were the same length.
Also she puts in two differnt colors and on one of the colors the bond doesn't match the hair color. She said sometimes they might not always match, it could be a shade lighter or darker. When I first bought them she told me the great thing about GL is that the bond matches the hair color so the extensions aren't as noticeable. Now this time she tells me something different. Has anyone ever noticed the bonds being a different color then the hair color with GL.
I was wondering if there is anyway I would know if these are GL extensions she put in? Is there anyway I could call the company and see if they were ordered and the length of the first set that was ordered?
My hair doesn't feel as full as it did the first time. She also put them in a lot lower on my head. Is there a certian place where they start on the head to put them in?
If I seen the new extensions before she took my old ones out I wouldn't of let her install the new ones, but my hair looked awful after taken the old ones out.
Everyone on this forum are so helpful , hopefully someone can help me out.
Thanks in advance

Ahhh i had the same experience. I have been wearing GL for years now and im parting ways with them tomorrow for the same reasons. I didnt know if my stylist started Bulls***ing me or if GL changed their quality. Anyways what you can do is take one out and send it to them ( or even check if your stylist ordered those for you). I have been mortified with doubts for the past few months. they run out of colors and send others and same with the lengths... the quality of the hair also used to be much better now they look ratty... either GL is going to the dogs or our stylists are giving us the run around....
I even had him unwrapp them out of the GL tissue paper to make sure... but still once in a while he had them in a poly bag which made me thing.
Im done with them ! good ridance GL ( greedy lengths if you ask me) prices went up too
you definitely should go back to her, it is obvious that you are not happy and its not like you have impossible expectations ... you just want what you had before .
Thanks for replying and giving me your experience. I just went on the GL website and the way they describe there hair doesn't sound like the ones in my hair.
I did call another salon and she said she would look at them and she could tell if they were GL. She also said the bond always match the hair color. That makes me wonder also.
I'm taking your advice and I'm going to take one extension out and send it to GL, that was a great idea! That way I will know for sure. I hope I'm wrong I would hate to think she would do that. Did your bond(I think that's what it's called) on the extension match the hair color.
I gave her 400.00 cash when I ordered it then a check today for 850.00 and was thinking I should put a stop payment on it. I have a feeling if it's not GL, she might not give me my money back.
Any opinion??
Thanks

Bless, yes typically the bonds match. However years ago my bonds matched better than they do now. Great lengths is now distributed by hair U wear and since then the quality has gone down.
But usually the bonds don't clash with the color.
I say put a stop payment on the check if you really aren't happy, you paid a good amount of money for them but for her to fill up a full head she would have spent more than that on hair. They usually put about 200 for a full head and they usually charge anywhere bet 10 and 12 dollars per hair... So I'm confused. Unless you got a half a head or I was seriously getting ripped off by my extensionist.you should go back to her and she should be able to fix what you don't like.
I got 5 sets and she said there's 25 pieces in each set. She charges 225.00 for one set of hair at 16in. Is GL usually more money? I feel my hair is not as full this time. She did 5 sets the first time and it was alot thicker.
Does that price sound right?

Yes it does sound right ... Doesn't mean much but then you got 125 pieces total which means that she supposedly made very little money on her labor ... Hum hard to believe .
Bless, You are very welcome. I know all about the trauma and paranoia with this hair situation... been there so I understand.
Im hoping my nightmare will be over tomorrow... my GL are coming off for good...
And i think the best advice is : when you feel like something isnt right it probably isnt.
Same with my stylist, I would order 22 " and then he would get 18' trying to convince me this is the right lengths... i dont know why i stuck with him for so long, but I can tell you he tried that stunt for a while and then he saw he wasnt getting away with it so he stopped. Truth is... GL charges a significant amount of money for length ( i think it can go from $4 to $8 difference between 2 lengths).
Good luck let me know how you make out ....and i will update you on my new installation tomorrow.
I just wanted to add to this since I am a long time Great Lengths user. Yes, the bonds ALWAYS match the hair. It seems like a long time ago they were sort of a clear color if that makes any sense but for quite some time now they have matched.
I also think its sad that they used to have a length between the super long and the shorter that they don't offer anymore. My stylist thinks that they did that so that people will be forced to buy the super long for more $$ and then cut it to the desired length. I have been really dissappointed with GL and their quality the last few times I've had them. I swear that they are no where near the same quality that they used to be.

Beach girl I am so glad that you noticed that too. I have been very disappointed with GL this past year. Years ago they were beautiful. The thing with the length also i remember they used that have 20 " now its either 18' or 22'.
Well i took mine out yesterday and my hair was so damaged, the bonds dont disolve as well as they used too, it was like having gum in my hair. Im so glad I dont have them anymore. My new system is way better
