QuoteReplyTopic: LACE FRONT WIGS ARGUMENT... Posted: February 26 2008 at 3:38pm
So what? People can't wear weaves, wigs etc without it making them less black? I've seen endless argument after endless argument about people who wear extentions. It really is pointless. We live in a place where the western way is dominant. It is hard for many people to wear their hair naturally, as they feel even more discriminated than they already are. While other black people can simply hold their heads high - and i applaud. But either way, in my opinion, what you do with your hair is not as important as everyone is making it out to be. We relax, straighten, curl, twist, bend etc etc etc - who cares. Many white people wear cornrows, they wear extentions and wigs too, why isn't anyone mentioning that? If people feel they need to bring up black peoples hair choices, let us also bring up those of other cultures.
Very few people are happy with their hair be it the colour, texture, body, length - you name it someone will have a problem with it. That's just people. We chop and change like nobodys buisness!
These days extentions and wigs are seen as fashion, but many people have other reasons as to why they wear them (hairloss etc), it just doesn't make a difference to me. I have more of a problem if a black person buys a wig and 'thinks' they're white, more western or less black. The issue here isn't what you have on your head, but your mental state of mind. I've worn my hair naturally, relaxed, braided, cornrowed and now I'm opting for a lace wig, while I grow my hair underneath (but i will not be buying one if you cannot sew it! I don't want any glue on my skin - i've heard the stories...!!)
I just don't understand why people have to point the finger. Everybody who wears extentions will have a different reason. I find that most the time it's beacuse they want to give their hair a rest or they find it too difficult. Either way, as long as we don't believe we are somebody we're not because we have different hair on our heads, then there really isn't a problem. Black hair is beautiful, unique, full of body and thickness and it is a shame to hide it lets be honest, but as long as we are proud of who we are then that's really it.
When I was younger, i was racially abused. My hair, my skin my lips... everything was wrong with me. But that never stopped me walking with my head held high. Alot of black people go through the same but aren't as strong as me and others. We also need to think about that, because lets face it, things like that can mentally disturb people furthur making them insecure about everything to do with there culture. We need to aknowledge this. And even though wearing weaves etc may seem stupid, wrong, insane even to many - why indulge in the world of weaves if you don't wear them? Why tell people the problem you have with them? They're not killing anyone.
Also, hair does not make you black, nor does it make you white or chinese etc. We can't tar everyone with the same brush unless we know why they do what they do. At the end of it all, all colours wear weaves and wigs, but the main focus on the internet seems to be on black people. I wonder why that is?
I have more of a problem with white people excessively tanning and black people excessively lightening there skin than i do with hair that stays on your head for a while. It's just like make - up, nobody really needs it but everybody wants it and does it.
We are what we know, not what others see.

I do not care what someone wants to do with their head...it is their choice (usually). I say usually because little children do not usually have a choice, it is up to their parents for the most part.
If someone wants to wear a blonde ponytail on their jet black hair, that is fine with me,I don't care.
Lacefronts seem to be great, but the price is out of my budget. I recently purchased a few wigs and they look great in my opinion. I'll be rocking them during the weekend as another alternative to proctective styles for my natural hair.
didn't read the whole thread but IMO i love anything that makes a woman feel confident in her appearence. i wear lf and i love them. if i had a curly fro i would rock it like nobody's business, if i saw a woman with 4 ft ext. and she hed her head up proudlyi would give her a thumbs up only because i like seeing women content and confident about their appearence. if her head was bald and she had a smile on her face i would smile back. the one thing i don't like to see women wearing in public is a night scarf. i think a woman should do whatever is necessary to withdraw from that. even if you have your hair is in a ragedy mess put on a baseball cap. or if your hair is severly damaged like mine was...... shave it all off and adopt a lacefront. it was the best decision i ever made!! i have never felt more confident and relaxed about my appeaence.

The confidence a woman carries, can make all of the difference in the world.
I do, however, get tired of seeing people walk around with their night scarf that has grease stains and hair products stains in public. Each individual need to find what makes them confident.

Okay girl.. but you gotta admit that any woman walking around in public with a night scarf with grease stains on it has gotta be pretty damn confident to not give a damn about rolling out like that!!

ha ha diva, there's a difference between being confident and triffling forgive me for the emoticon if any arabs are on this site. it just seemed to fit. by the way, turbans are worn with confidence, nasty rags are a show of lazy-trifflingness. yes that is a word!!! lol lol

ok diva, just one more thing. how can a woman be confident wearing a nasty, stained rag on her head in public? i'm not talking about one that looks cute, clean and sort of matches her outfit, i'm talking about a scarf that looks like it should be thrown in the laundry or thrown away.
a person will always interact with you according to how you present yourself and if your presenting a nasty scarf that looks nasty and inappropriate how could she be confident in the way others may be perceiving her?????? no one likes to be thought of as triffling, so why put yourself in a position to be considered such??? even if it's not true of your entire character.
(not you, i'm just using you and i as an example, but this is to be taken in general)

I knew exactly what you were saying girl. But that's exactly my point.. You and I may not roll that way, but I personally give props to any woman who TRULY does not care what you or I think about her wearing a nasty old scarf out in public..
IMO it takes an AWFUL amount of self confidence to roll out into the world and not be worried ONE BIT about what others think of you.. Now it may not be yours or my flow to roll out the house that way, but I gotta give any woman who is willing to roll out like that some gravy..
I can appreciate it because I've really learned over the years that I can't control what people think of me anyway.. So I do me whatever that may be.. and apparently the woman who is willing to roll out in a nasty old scarf is doing the same.. I can't be mad at that girl..
