long hair "mentor"?

I'm curious - does anyone have a long hair "mentor"? That is, someone you know who also has gone through the experience of growing and maintaining long hair, someone to offer advice and support? Conversely, have you ever served in this role?

I'm in the process of growing shoulder blade length hair to my waist, and especially as a guy, a relationship like that is hard to come by. That's why boards such as this are nice. However, I imagine it would be very helpful to have a personal connection with someone who has gone through everything before, and could help with specific problems or questions. I guess a professional stylist could serve that role, but you have to pay them, and I'm not willing to do that! :)

When I grew my hair long I did not have a hair "mentor." I just "toughed it out" on my own. This was before I was aware of an entity called the "world-wide web."

As Bratty says, I think within message boards such as this one exist a group of people who are mentors of sorts, who are happy to provide helpful advice and support to those who wish to grow and/or maintain long hair. So feel free to ask specific problems or questions right here, and you're sure to get some replies.
