hey everyone..I'm getting my hair done this week and i need ur advice badly...about a month ago i bought human hair extensions *clip ins* from headkandy and i lovee them...but I've decided that i want to go lighter...my hair right now is a light/medium blond... buttt i really want to go lighter..as in..like the girls next door playboy look...i know its bad for my hair but i love that look and im ready for a change..So my question is..Is it possible to lighten the hair extensions? I keep getting different answers..some people say its fine since its human hair and other people said it wont work...I'm going to my usual hair dresser but i haven't gotten to talk to her about it so if you guys could help that would be wonderful...thanks so much
There's lots of factors that will determine whether or not you can dye extensions hair without problems.. Among them are
The quality of the hair Lower quality hair may not fare well from the coloring process.
The method in which the hair was previously colored If you are coloring colored extensions hair this one is a little tricky. Some vendors use fabric dyes which are colorfast to color extensions hair. It makes coloring the hair a lot tricker..
Your stylist will have to do a strand test to determine how the extension you have will hold up to coloring..

To lighten the hair extension hair that much, from med blond to platinum, that would be difficult. I'd do a small strand test and see if the hair turns to cotton (stretchy and ruined).
Hey Cris; excellent advice by the other ladies. I would just add that it's easier and less tedius to buy the hair already lightened (#613 or #60), then you can use toners or purple shampoo/conditioner on it to get it whiter. I wear light blonde hair and I would never try to lighten it on my own (although I do my own roots every month). Not only is it damaging to the hair, but it can be difficult to get the hair to the blonde you want. Good luck!
