So, I am about to take a year or more off of my corporate career. My man and I have going to travel around North America in our camper. So, I will not longer be able to visit my favorite stylist and get my hair cut, colored, and styled anymore. Some times we will be rationing water because we will be camping in the middle of nowhere. I wont always be able to use a blow drier because there will be times when we are running off solar panels and batteries. So, I need a no fuss hair style that will still look stylish. I also need one that wont look like crap if I go a bit longer between salon visits. Also, one that almost any stylist on the road can reproduce.

I am only 30 and have wavy light brown/auburn hair. Its pretty limp and thin, but there's a good deal of it. I love length, but I, as I said above, wont always have water to spare or a blow drier to straighten it. Not to mention the bathroom is a bit cramped for styling long hair.

I am thinking about a pob. I don't know how much work it is though.
I will post some pics of me shortly.

I plan on talking with my stylist this week.

Thanks in advance!

While I love the Pob and the Pob Craze right now, it does take quite a bit of work to keep up.  I have people coming back every 5-6 weeks to keep the layers in the back looking good.  Also, it takes a little work to get it to look really good.  Not alot of work, but you would need a round brush and a hair dryer.  Letting it dry naturally won't cut it with that style.

I had a friend that decided to do what you are doing.  Not saying this is the only option, but she decided to buzz all of her hair off and keep a battery powered set of clippers with her.  Both her and her husband would charge it in the car and use them once a week.  That way they didn't have to worry about shampoo...they would just use soap and take baths in streams.

I doubt that is an option so the only other idea I have for you is your basic Bob with a few longer layers.  Start off around shoulder length and you can let it go for 6 months and it would still look good.  You can put it up when you want or put it down.  That is quite a bit of hair to wash/upkeep but if you are wanting to keep your hair, that would be my suggestion.

Thanks for your reply.

It looked like such a no fuss hair style. Too bad.

Do you think that I would be able to use rollers to dry it instead of a brush and drier?

Also, do you think that most stylist can keep the style if I just stopped by any random salon on the road?

Yes, that's not an option. I can w/o water and electricity, but not hair. Sad, I know.

That style is not hard to cut.  It has been around for years, but just became popular in the last 9 months.  I would hope that any stylist would be able to cut it...assuming your texture is good for that style.  If you post your picture, I could help you decide if that style is right for you.

Also, I can't believe you are going camping for that long and want to use rollers?  Would love to see how you plan to do that!?!?!?!

Raincloud, congratulations on your upcoming year of fun RV'ing.

Another possibility you may want to consider, is long hair simply put up or braided.  It's very low maintenance.

Currently, I go many days between washing my hair.  After an adjustment period, the scalp got used to it.  So whenever I go hiking and camping, I don't  have to worry about my scalp (I wash it just before I venture off into the woods).

Hey Raincloud,

The last time I went camping, I had a short greasy boxie (bobpixie? bixie?) The camping was great but my scalp revolted. Today with long hair and a healthier scalp, I'd be more willing to go camping in the middle of nowhere and get icky.

I second Dave's advice to put your hair in a "contained" style such as a braid. You're also less likely to catch insect hitchhikers that way Dead Not fun

Have a wonderful year of exploring.

Blessings
