Confused I have a question...Yesterday a client I normally bleach came in and I did the same as always bleach and 40 vol. foils However, her hair was not lifting through the pale yellow stage. Is it possible that recreational drug usage can make one's hair react different. Just wondering she had been out the night before.
Thanks for your time

If the client was using drugs, it could effect hair near the scalp but how could those nasty chemicals get all the way to the tips and be evenly distributed? Was her hair very short? Was the bleach working better on the ends? Anyways, I think this scenario sounds pretty unlikely.

What seems more likely is that the bleach you used had expired or was otherwise damaged. Another scenario could be that you used the bleach in an 80 degree room on one day and timed it and just couldn't get the same results in a 65 degree room on another day.

Anyways, I am not a professional hair dresser like you but these are my best guesses.

Thanks for the reply, i already figured it out. She was taking Soma's and it was only the root that was affected. I need to trust my judgement after 12 years, I do know what I'm talking about.

I'm glad you have it figured out. But, now I am curious. What is a Soma? Thanks!

Soma's are muscle relaxers. Some peeps take them just to get messed up. Lame.
Thanks for your time

Hi Chillkali, I agree with you that medication can affect the hair. As I know you are experience hairstylist you will know that the hair is a living part of the body, it needs nutrients to grow an be healthy, so as you said drugs, medication even what we eat and drink can affect the hair structure.

I have had a few incidents like you have and that is always the first thing I ask if my client is on any medication, unfortunately and sometime understandably the client does not want you to know this information.
