I live in Texas and the requirements here for cosmetology school is 1500 hours. I looked up in California it is 1600 hours. Well I will be moving to California and I wanted to know if anyone knew how that would work with me getting my license changed over? Would they give me the hours by working in the shop or would they make me go back to school for another couple of weeks?I have already taken my tests and I was wondering if they would make me retest there. If anyone knows how this works please let me know thanks!!!

If you look at this website:  http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/faq/license_ca.php
It states that there is no reciprocity (in other words they don't recognize a license from another state).  If you have further questions, you may want to call them directly at the address in the contact info on that web page.

Reciprocity: California

No reciprocity available. Applicants must take written and practical exam. In the case of barbers, Barbers have to take both a written and a practical examination, however, barber instructors require only a written exam.
