I have a consultation for hair extensions, and can do 1/2 a head of 18" extensions, or 3/4 a head of 10" extensions, for basically the same price... what should I do? Is it normal to get 1/2 a head of 18"?? or would I just look like I had a mullet? How far does the 1/2 head go up to? I'm so confused...

PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks in advance
Casey

Really good questions. I think it may depends on a few things including: the length of your natural hair now, the thickness and the look you want. If you have shorter hair (chin length) and it's blunt, I would go for a full head because you will need to cover as much of the short as possible. If your hair is fairly long or shoulder length, you can get away with less coverage/hair. the problem is, a lot of hairdressers don't even know how much hair you need themselves when you ask! It's better that you give them a firm answer/demand on what you want, so you don't have to rely on theirs. HTH!Tongue

if you want length and want it to look natural and thick, not thin and scraggly- and your hair is shoulder length or shorter, you will need a full head of at least 18 inches long.

if your hair is longer and you want thickness and length you could prob do about 100 strands and it should look good.
10 inch extensions are not that long.
go for length and thickness.
when i do a consutation i can tell just how much you will need. Also the size of your head makes a difference too.

Tangles has some great feedback!
I agree...I think its weird that they said 1/2 a head or a full head. Everywhere I have gone, they have quoted me based on my hair thickness, the length I want compared to what I have (ie...if I want 2 inches longer and volume or 10" longer and volume). I will tell them whether I want tons of volume or enough to fill out the ends or match my current volume but just increase length...then they will estimate how many strands I would need.

You need to decide what you want? more volume, and shorter length or med volume and length....i would always go for length and volume. Its hard to tell without knowing what you have currently.

Thanks for your repliesSmile

I haven't even gone to the consult yet...but I was quoted on the cyber hair (I'm going to Charlene from Cybermane) so she really has no idea the thickness/length/condition of my hair, but so you guys know...it's shoulder length and very layered.

I definitely want both thicker, and longer hair. Maybe I should just go with the other method which is $250 per hour labor plus the cost of hair, since that's a full head...?

I second on that Tangles. She is very knowledgeable. I definately would go with what ever she suggests. You're in good hands!

Well I'm going with Charlene's junior technician, Elena, and I'm getting 18" cyberhair 200 strands for volume+length, for $1400. However, I think it may be significantly more with Charlene. I hope that helps. She is really well known and has tons of stuff out on her, so don't worry about her experience. I met her and she really knows what she's talking about.
