Hey everyone!  I've been reading around the forums on hair straighteners & I've been doing some really heavy research into getting a new flat iron.

My hair is a few inches past my shoulders, and relatively thick.  I had thick, straight & beautiful hair up until I hit puberty (argh!) and then it totally changed.  I'm not sure if it's wavy or curly, it kinda seems in between both, and gets really frizzy.  I'm not sure if my hair is coarse or not: I'm Filipino, so it can't be thin, but I'm not exactly sure of my hair texture.  It's a little difficult to straighten, and I always have to use high heat.

I've been through so many cheapo flat irons (Conair, Remington, Hot Tools) and even a couple of not-so-cheap ones, Chi, Corioliss, Wigo, HAI.  My last Chi worked OK for my hair, but it wasn't as amazing as people claimed it to be: I found it totally dried out my hair, and didn't even get it/keep it that straight.  My Conair one worked better than that!  Besides the point, it broke within 7 months because of the cord (which I've heard is a very common issue).

I've narrowed it down to either the Solia or Sedu flat iron to purchase, and I really can't pick.  They both seem to have their pros & cons, especially after I've read thousands of reviews on Folica.  The reason why I have not sprung for the Sedu already, despite the rave reviews, is my concern about the heat - my hair is a tad difficult to straighten, and I'm afraid the Sedu might only work on thinner hair. If it went up to the same temp as the Solia, it would have already been bought!  The reason why I haven't gone for the Solia yet is the plate system (Dynamic Alignment System).  After reading SO many reviews, some people have said that the systems creates a big gap, the plates don't exactly meet, it's ineffective, and it snags your hair at the ends.

To anyone who's tried both, or even just one of them, your experience or any info or insight you may have for me would be great regarding these two flat irons.
Cheers~
- Kelly

I have incredibly thick fair that also doesn't straighten easily. I once borrowed a friend's Solia, and it was amazing! My hair was soft and smooth all day. I've never tried the Sedu, though, so I can't compare.

I have fine very curly hair.  Shortish style right now.  Was also wondering which straightener would be best.  I've read about the ones with rounded edges being better for short hair.  Anyone know anything about these?

Sometimes people think that with thick hair you are better off with a 2" or larger iron.  Size isn't really a huge issue, you are better off with a high quality 1" iron with rounded edges so you can style and control your hair better.

I am a stylist and I have been using the FHI Runway for a long time now and it works great.  Unfortunately it just burnt out after extended use but it lasted me years. It is real expensive but a great 1" Flat iron.

Just recently I came across the new Hana Elite that supposedly compares to the Runway.  100% ceramic plate iron that doesn't damage hair and has great heat refresh time. I have worked on all different types of hair with the Hana Elite from frizzy and short to long and wavy and it has gotten the job done every time.

I would highly recommend the Hana Elite to anyone who is serious about hair styling.
