I had long beautiful hair before my friend talked me into bleaching it. She knows nothing about hair coloring but at the time she said she did. She bought volume 40 and used double the amount that she was supposed to now my hair is a bunch of colors and I had to cut about 4 inches off. When she was bleaching my hair I could hear it sizzle and my scalp was burning. My hair is frail and mushy still and when I comb it out it breaks. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wanted my hair to be a darker color with red highlights. When can I try to get that? This was all done about 1 month ago. I hate the many different colors that it is now. I know I should get to a salon but I do not have enough money to pay for that right now. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your hair is damaged, that much is obvious. If it is breaking off and feels mushy then the very last thing you should do is color it again! You may really hate the color, but any more processing will only make the situation worse. Nothing can EVER repair damaged hair, since it is dead. Without cellular turnover, hair cannot restore itself to its natural state--no way, no how, regardless how many deep conditioners you use. You can, however, use a protein-rich treatment and leave-in conditioner, which will coat the hair shaft and make it somewhat more resistant to breakage. This is not a permanent fix--the benefit gets washed right out with the product when you shampoo.

So.....my advice is stop coloring and cut as much off as you can stand. I know that`s not what you want to hear but no matter how long you wait in between processes it will still damage the hair--it will not be in better condition six months from now. Perhaps you could take vitamins to stimulate faster growth, but beyond that there is just patience.

Good luck!

Hey! I agree with Lyris (see above)- coloring your hair can damage it badly, so you definitely DON`T want to do that again. When its healthier, then I`d suggest going to a salon to get it done, even if you have to save up for a while. Its just too dangerous to do at home, especially if you`re doin any kind of blond. `Till then, you have my sympathies, as I am also trying to figure out what to do after a bad bleach job a few months ago. Sux, dont it?
Good Luck to ya! Love, Ingrid

There is something that you can do about it. First of all choose a color something like a 8.34 and mix it with 10vols. This is called pre pigmentizing. When that colour has taken, you have now under coated your hair. Then apply your target shade, which must be one level darker 7.34 with 10 vols these are both Blonde golden copper. Your hair will not be damaged as these days many colours have humectants, reconstructants and conditioners in them. DO NOT BLEACH IT AGAIN!! This will result in your hair breaking and is then really irritrievable. After doing this still use a good shampoo and conditioner. For a reconstructor try Nioxin Structure & strength it is expensive but well worth it. Good luck.
