Hey everyone, I just have a quick question about getting wavy hair.

My hair is very thick and straight. For two years now I have tried just about everything I can think of to get some type of style to it, but to no avail. I would really like to have it look similar to
Alex O'Loughlin (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1943378176/nm1533927) the individual that plays Mick on the TV series Moonlight, but I don't know where to start.

If I don't put anything in it, it just falls down into my face, but if I do use something it just straightens my hair out even more and as the day goes on whatever I am using starts to break down and strands of hair dangle down in front of my eyes; it's very annoying.

Currently I am using a light gel to keep my hair out of my face and somewhat styled, but it looks like I slicked it back and is not very stylish. What can I do to get it styled and wavy without having to hire a personal stylist?

Thanks all.

To get straight hair wavy, it either has to be permed, or you have to use wet hair in braids or curlers, then blow dry it in them.  You may have to grow it more to have enough length to do those with.

I futzed around with that for years myself on my straight hair, often its more trouble than its worth, and never comes out looking all that natural (the braids leave you with straight roots and ends, the perm makes it dried out and frizzy and when the roots grow in they are straight, and sleeping in damp curlers, while it works best, is not really comfortable (or attractive for my poor husband).   You will have an easier time if you choose another style that you like on someone who has straight hair.

One tip:  If you really want to go for wavy, not only will growing it longer make this easier to achieve, but dyeing it helps too. By drying out the hair, it holds an unnatural texture a lot better.
