I finally got up the nerve to try it, but I just did my own pinchbraid install with Plastikhaar. I remember years ago when Kalika said she would just sit in front of the TV and braid the back of her hair herself. So, I turned on the SciFi channel, watched horrible B flicks all day on Saturday, and braided in my hair. It took at least 9 hours (with LOTS of breaks), and my fingers ached afterward, but it actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
I'm a big fan of the Plastikhaar - so little maintenance - and pinchbraids seem to stay well in my hair (the glues and tapes just slip out). I had some silicone lined microrings as a backup just in case it turned out to be too hard.
I still don't have a decent camara, so the photos are blurry, but they give you an idea. The color is a mixture of schwarzer pfeffer and kaffee, with some violett highlights underneath.
My own hair is shoulder length, very thin and fine.
Your hair looks great! I can't believe you did it yourself. So how does the plastikhaar feel? Does it look too fake? I'm curious about trying it myself.
Looks great! Pinch braids would be hard to do on yourself, so way to go for you!
How do you care for the plastik haar? I wore some a while ago on clip ins, but I found it was too fussy- it got frizzy easy. I want to try some again since I love wearing the funky colors .
Geez, way to go! That looks great and blends pretty great with your own hair. You are brave and patient!! Glad you've found a method that works for you. Thanks for posting your pic!
I like the plastikhaar the best so far. It's very lightweight, and my own hair is very shiny, so the texture match is perfect. It can get tangly, but steam curlers or the boiling water dunk both work great for smoothing out the hair.
