I've had a little changing of the links, usually it is paint chipping off after awhile, which is bad, because there is black under the blonde paint!

Uh OH! Your hair absolutely should NOT feel dry after the first wash, that is a BAD sign :( I always use the first wash to predict how my hair is going to behave and "Dry' is not good, Good quality hair should not tangle, very little if any. It should be just as soft and silky as it was at install, If your hair is tangly, dry and creeping up...it is not as good of a quality as your stylists has told you.

how many times have you called her? At this point, I may be considering stopping payment on my credit card until she fixes the problems.

I'm self-employed too and I know I want my clients to be happy, your stylists should be there for you after the paycheck you gave her. You paid a lot for a quality install, you should get it.

OR..maybe look for a new stylist, Tangles, if she is close to you sounds awesome :D

everyone does things differently- i learn everyday-
if she put two strands in each loc, in my opinion and WITHOUT seeing, i would say it could be too heavy.
layering would deff help.
how do u know you have virgin hair? what color is it?
she had you BUY $100 worth of products?
all hair feels different once it is washed.
locs- some do change color- the paint they use now a days on the locs are cheap- most of then change within a few mths or more, however i have had some that changed within a few weeks.
could of been water in shower, a reverse osmosis, salt based water softer system. could be because they rub together. however, stylists should change them out when that happens.
shouldnt feel dry.
can u go back to her this week?

Sofiaone:

What types of ISSUES did you have with the metal???

I have read about the copper changing color on a few people, but not much else - except some people prefer glue etc over metal on their head. I certainly would never want glue or keratin. My hear breaks badly and I am certain it couldnt withstand that take down- which is why I opted for hairlocs after much research.
BUT I AM GETTING VERY WORRIED THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR MY HAIR -- THIS HAIR IS HEAVY!!!!!!!!!! As I said I have just under 200 strands but it is almost waist length - now she didnt layer the back which I dont care for, and I told her I want to get it layered. The longest layer can be that long but all this BULK of hair hanging straight down is too much for me- I feel like the Old Cher when she used to swing around all that hair - am I dating myself now??!!

Tangles - will layering help with the weight or do I need to have strands removed? I love the length and having more thickness but a pony tail the size of a silver dollar is too much with the stuff on the top of my head, AND I AM VERY WORRIED THE WEIGHT OF THIS IS GOING TO PULL MY OWN HAIR OUT AFTER MONTHS OF THIS.

I will try to get pics downloaded and sent to you guys tonight.

By the way, Iwashed for the first time today- the hair naturally waves curls nicely- very very close to mine, but it seems much drier now that it has been washed.

Yes she gave me prodicts, but no brands I had ever heard of and since that brand hairspray she used SO much of before she applied the lock I think may have caused itching, I used my oww. I have dry hair to begin with so I have very good product by Mitchell and Redken and Pureology- all of these were on her approved list so not sure why I had to buy another $100 of her product. The only good thing she brought was a looping brush just for extensions?

hi- sorry for all the pain you are going through. Sounds like you might have talked to Tangles but didn't head out to her for a consult. I would highly recommend that if you can't rectify your situation with your current stylist that you go to tangles (pay for a consult) if you need to to to have her look at what you have installed currently in your hair. She is the hairlocs expert here and is meticulous with her installs. I went to see her for a consult too and was able to to see her work. Its great. I wish I had seen her before I did my hairlocs install with a totally crappy stylist who pulled a lot of my own hair out. I also had issues with the metal (happens to some of us ) so hairlocs wasn't for me. but if I had to do it again, I would only have Tangles do it. It is worth the drive for a good a stylist.

Also- pain should be very minimal if any, and should subside by a few days. If it has been over 3 days and you are still in intense pain, then go see her to have the ones on the temple removed....it could be that your scalp is really sensitive in that area too.

two strands per loc. that could be too much weight on your own hair- i dont do it that way, but hey, i am just one person.

frayed sharpness on locs, that really shouldnt be. would have to see what u mean.
if she put two locs in- they she prob used larger locs to be able to hold two strands.
None of my clients have ever experienced this, and neither have i, and i have worn then for 6 years now.
typicially i dont need to flat iron the hair first unless your hair is curly.
and i never use hair spray.
have you washed your hair yet?

iF THIS SOUNDS RIGHT, I believe she said she does TWO strands per loc because she said it is faster and falls better?

I am almost certain she said that - so I know I do not have 200 locs. Could that be the problem?

When I went for a consult in Vegas the guy there seemed to show me what looked like teeny tiny locs and said he used the smallest possible? They did not seem to look like this, but I didnt see any after they were actually clamped.

I would say all of mine (except for one which I complained about at the time and she "loosened" it _ and it is like the only one that doesnt hurt now) are at least 3/8 ( I measured) long. Also, some of the locs feel very sharp on the ends (like frayed or something) - could this have happened from the clamping?

I still havent been able to sleep in any position without waking up 20 times to try to move my hair this way or that. I cannot get them to lay anyway where they are not digging into my head.

I guess I didnt do enough asking- but I swear I went to about 5 different consult for all different methods. I guess I just never realized this was going to be so uncomfortable having metal rods all over your head. Everyone I talked to, even people who had them, didnt describe what I have,

Also she used TONS of hairspray on the hair before she put the loc on - could this be what is causing my itching?

She also took a before pic of my hair flat ironed (which I never do) Of course my hair looked much thinner and lifeless that way - but she also said it was easier for her to place the locs this way to know what of my hair would conceal them. Is this true?

HOpefull she will call me soon so maybe I can get this looked at tomorrow.

Sorry you are having a rough time with the locs.

I install my own locs and put them about 1/4 inch down, and yes..they may be a little uncomfortable the first night or two, but then I don't have any pain or itching. I think you should go back to your stylist and have the problem rectified

As for sunglasses/glasses. I have almost pulled out hair if I am careless about putting my glasses on with locs on, so yes, be careful! It sounds like your locs are TOO close to your scalp and pulling too hard on your hair, and/or you have stray hairs stuck in the loc that shouldn't be there.

I love using the fusion templates to install locs, it helps keep a clean, natural hair going in and the stray hairs from creeping in and getting caught in the lock.

Call your stylist! You shouldn't have to suffer so badly, and yes..that sounds really expensive!

there should not be "pain" when locs are installed- maybe a bit discomfort for getting used to them for a few days, and you Deff should be able to wear glasses w/o problems. you should have one loc for each strand. so if u have got 200 strands, then 200 locs.
everyone charges differently- $10 is a bit high.
i also do not charge to do a blended cut  or for products to go home with,
i feel, and again, this is just how i do things, that the cut espicially should be included.
your extensions should be layered all over too blend.
i remember emailing with you before- you didnt want to drive to me, a bit too far for u.
how do u know you got virgin russian hair. what color is it?

i WAS WONDERING IF THE PAIN IS ALSO DUE TO HOW MANY LOCS I HAVE - I HAVE AN AVERAGE HEAD OF HAIR BUT HAD SCRAGGLY ENDS AND SOME THINNING AROUND THE CROWN WHICH IS WHY I WANTED TO TRY EXTENSIONS. BUT, I HAVE ABOUT 4 ROWS OF THEM - I HAVENT COUNTED HOW MANY LOCS, I WOULD SAY OVER 30?? THERE ARE ALSO AT LEAST 8 ALL VERY CLOSE TOGETHER IN FRONT/ABOVE MY EARS - THIS IS WHAT HURTS THE MOST.
IS THIS TYPICAL TO HAVE THIS MANY LOCS????
I DID CALL MY STYLIST BUT SHE WANTS ME TO "TRY IT OUT" FOR A FEW MORE DAYS AND SEE IF THE PAIN AND ITCHING GOES AWAY.
THE LOCS ARE SO CLOSE TO MY EARS I CANNOT TAKE MY GLASSES ON AND OFF. I CANNOT PERCH THEM ON TOP OF MY HEAD BECAUSE THEY PRESS ON THE LOCS AND HURT.
IS THIS NORMAL TOO>>?

HAVING NEVER WORN EXTENSIONS, I NEVER EXPECTED A LOT OF THESE THINGS.
THANKS

P.S WOULD LAYERING THE HAIR SOME ON THE ENDS REDUCE SOME OF THE HEAVINESS. I THINK SHE WAS WORRIED ABOUT LOSING LENGTH BUT IT IS VERY BLUNT CUT . MY REGULAR HAIR IS LAYERED ALL OVER.

I ALSO GOT CHARGED $100 FOR THE "BLENDED CUT" AND 3 PRODUCTS. THIS WAS ON TOP OF $10 PER STRAND. DOESNT THIS SEEM HIGH>? ( i AM IN LOS ANGELES)

hello
first off welcome to our community of hair addicts-
lets see if i can help you- i am a stylist and certified in Hairlocs/ Manetubes and this is all i do along with color/highlights.
your locs should not be so close to your ear or hair line- for two reasons:
1) it will hurt
2) it will pull out those tiny litle hairs-
they should always be placed about 1/4- 1/2 and sometimes 1 inch away from hair line- it all depends on your hair, shape of head and how much hair u have. you never want to have any visibility for the locs

they can deff be moved with no problem what so ever.
200 stands is typical
have you spoken to your stylist- i am sure she would be happy to take care of you- i know i certainly would.
also maybe she can layer your hair somemore so it wont feel so heavy for u

JUST HAD HAIRLOCS - NOW ITCHING AND PAIN!!???????

I am an extensions virgin and afer much research etc. I found a hairlocs expert (with a great gallery) and just had them put in. 200 strands -which I think is really too much- I have a ponytail the size of silver dollar. Original estimate was 150 strands. Anyway, I have had pain around temples, above ears (where another stylist many months back said they dont go that high?) but anyway, I have thin hair here - so not sure. I have at least 6 locs each side/near/around temples over ears. It is hard to put on glasses etc. Cant put hair up in front .
But 3 days later, I still cannot find comfortable position to sleep or even rest my head on couch. Also, I have tremendous itching (besides the pain).
Can these areas just be removed? or are they too tight? (they hurt there when they went in) Also I thought the locs were very supposed to be very small (per other consults I went to) - these are all about 1/4" or more?
The look is great but I think it is too much hair for me (as I have thin hair on top) and it is SOOOO heavy.
BTW I did get top quality virgin russian.

Thanks for your help!!
